Can We Talk About Something Else?

I figured you may be getting a tad sick of me droning on about juice…which juicer to buy, that I finally bought it, and then that I made juice. So let’s not talk about juice. Well, not quite…yet.

Instead, let’s talk about Green Food. This Plate ‘o Green was:
*Broc
*B.S.
*Cukes
*Orange Peppers
*The Standard Dressing, aka Juice of 1/2 Orange, Agave, Crack Black
Mixed vegetables tossed in dressing in bowl

And this Plate o’ Green was:
*Greens (novel concept)
*Cukes
*Carrots
*Orange Peppers
*Jicama
*And I had not yet added The Standard before photo op

Got up this morning and went for a run. Then Yoga.

Here I am powered up from last night’s plates of greens doing my morning yoga. Virabhadrasana I, aka Warrior I. I have had enough going on in my life these days to make me feel like a True Warrior, but I digress. That old adage, what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger. Hopefully it’s true because I’m hangin’ my hat on that one. I am Warrior, Hear Me Roar!

After yoga, it was time to bust a move in the kitch. Whipped up some Vegan Granola. Previously, I posted a step-by-step tutorial that you can go check out for all the ingredients and instructions.

Close-Up. Don’t get too excited folks with your drool thinking this is raw. Or really that healthy. When are grains, sweetener, and a slab of Earth Balance really that “healthy”? Never.
But even after I just gave you every reason not to make the granola, I will give you one to make it: It’s the best freakin’ granola around for when you just have to have granola. And of course, it’s gluten, dairy, and soy free. Bonus-score-cha-chang!

After all that work in the kitch, I nibbled on a few pieces of watermelon. Crap, I fear watermelon season is getting down there. And I’ve really developed quite a love affair with it lately. Well, at least lust. I lust after you oh seedless one.

Scott was kind enough to go to TJ’s for me this morning and pick up a few things. Nanners, lowfat, vanilla, organic Pacific almond milk, and TJ’s own Rice & Bean Chips. Now these are not a product I would ever buy, I really don’t take a second look at any product with Bean in the title. That’s not really my thing. Not to mention, I am not a chip girl. If I am going to consume pointless calories, I’d much prefer they be chocolate. I mean, duh.

However, on recommendation from many choosey friends, I purchased these chips a few months ago. And they became a hit in this house. They are gluten, dairy, and soy free. Now, if you’re suuuper sensitive there may be trace issues there, but it’s nice not to consume facefulls of common allergens even if you don’t necessarily have to avoid things. Ya know?

So after putting away the rest of the TJ’s loot, I decided to venture out with Skylar to buy some more of what I’ve been calling my Shaker Cup. I discovered it actually has a name, Blender Bottle. And boy, are these things handy.

As previously described, the wire wisk is fab and being that I want to start making more juice and less coffee, I figured I’d stock up on great juice cups or for water or protein shakes or whatever. The store owner cut me a snazzy deal, basically took about 25% off my order. I’d like to think it was because I was a hot mom but I think it was actually because my 2 yr old was ransacking the store and he just wanted to get us the hell outta there, but regardless, it was a nice $core. And he was gay so I coulda been Heidi Klum and it still wouldn’t have mattered on my di$count.

Ok so after the Blender Bottle, aka Shaker Cup, extravaganza, we continued on to TJ’s (second trip there before noon for this household) for what else? Coffee. I am cutting back, but I was out and needed to stock up. Also picked up some blueberries, organic pears, and in honor of all of Gina’s posts about her Indian Nights, I picked up some Whole Wheat Naan.
Packages of blueberries, pears, naan and coffeeJust as I was mentioning why eat a whole bunch of gluten if you don’t need it? It’s such a few-and-far between occurrence in this house that I buy any kind of bread product, Skylar stuffed her face with a whole slab of naan. 240 calories, 10 g of protein, and 8 g of fiber which is 31% of the RDA according to the label. I guess the naan is full ‘o fiber. Great for the pipes that naan.

The input:
*12 large romaine leaves
*4 kale stalks
*1 celery stalk
*3 carrots
*2 apples
*1.5 cukes
*1.5 thick inch of ginger which turned out to be a tad much, but whatevah…it was ginger kickalicious
An array of various fruits and vegetables laid out on countertopThe Output:
*30 Lovely Green Ounces which Scott and I split. Yes, my man is drinking Green Juice and Diggin’ It. Rock on, love you for going with all my new ideas babe.

  1. Oh, I so wish I loved dulse. I know it has tons of nutrition in it but I just can't stomach it:( As for the green juice, fabulous! I was up last night at 10 o'clock doing yoga in the peace and quiet:D

  2. Thanks for the yoga tip & sharing more yoga!
I am liking the sound of your simple but tasty sounding dressing. Yum.
I am yet to try dulse but given I am a salt seeker, I think I may just be in heaven when I do…
    Skylar's so cute :)

  3. You are one flexible lady!! Love the poses. And your salads are always so colorful and beautiful! Yum!

  4. My ND chews Dulse like gum! She got me to try it and it was okay–a little too fishy tasting at the end though. I may get some to put in salads. I have been using some dulse granules, but have never done flakes.

Love the yoga poses! I am new to reading your blog and I also love yoga and healthy eats! I'll be back:)

  5. I was just looking at dulce flakes tonight at WF! I put them back because I just wasn't sure…I would love to know how the juice is after a day. I would love to be able to crank some out!

  6. VG-Hugs, hang in there! And we'll have to chat about if all that dulse makes you thirsty?

Cindy-I never could figure out WordPress and ironically, I dont consider myself "that challenged" with computers. I mean, sure, I am no Bill Gates but I can figure stuff out and I could not get the hang of their layouts and if it aint cute, I don't want to have it. Good deal on the yoga poses! And the dulse..no just raw. It's sooo light that I would imagine cooking it would just wilt it into oblivion.

Deb-Spicy but not really on the juice. 60 oz is alottttt of juice! I really do prefer my V to my juicer, but wanted to try to get into juicing. I am really realizing though that nothing can replace my love for the V as the cleanup is 10x faster/easier than the juicer. I make blended green stuff for Skylar all the time in the V. Oh I don't like nori, if that's what you're talking about…too crunchy and salty. Yeah, in veggie sushi rolls it's ok but not to like munch on. Not for this girl!

The thing I didnt like about Ecto was that you had to upload everything into Flickr first, then it said I had too many re-directs, i.e. links to friends. Well give that The Bird, peace out, can't hang, b/c I like to link to my friends :)

  7. Averie, Sorry wish I could help you with your blogging issues but it would be the blind leading the blind. BTW your template is GORGEOUS!!! Totally steal-worthy but I can't do that now! :-D

Your juice must have been SPICY senorita!! 2 inches of ginger=yum! Have you ever tried to make your juice in the vitamix? It's soooooo easy to clean as you know. And you get the fiber (of course then it's not really a "juice" is it?) Well, those are my thoughts.

Skylar is so funny. Tell her that this reader doesn't really like eating dirt either! :-D (however knowing me I'll probably pick up some of that dulse next time I'm at the health food store!). I have some seaweed that is quite thick and crunchy that I got in a Japanese market. Not bad. Good for the mouth munchies :-D

  8. I have that same dulse too. did you eat it dry or soak it? I have a lot of different sea "veggies' I am trying. Some are hard to get down but I love the minerals.

um…time savers and Mac's? didn't ever think about it! HA I use wordpress, as is; with my Mac.

I am going to check out your ecto… see what I might be missing…and HEY..I just clicked on one of your yoga poses links (didn't realized they were links…) and I go to that same website! LOVE IT

I made myself a few pages of yoga poses to take home yesterday!

    small world huh!

I think there are worse things in life than breaking a few juicing rules! At least you are drinking live raw juices… even if they are 24 hours old
I do that ! juicing EVERY Day..working, mama hood… it's LOT to get in!

    good for you!
