I’m Honored To Be Honored!

You may recall that yesterday was not my day. At all. I was seriously bumming but my friend Justine honored me yesterday with the Honest Award. It put some much needed spring in my step! Thank you Justine!

This is what the award is for…
“This award is bestowed upon a fellow blogger whose blog content or design is, in the giver’s opinion, brilliant. This award is about bloggers who post from their heart, who oftentimes put their heart on display as they write from the depths of their soul.”

There are three rules that need to be followed upon accepting this award.
1)Brag about it
2)Select 7 Blogs you find brilliant and link to them
3)List 10 honest things about yourself

So, I can do #1 (brag about it). I recently started this blog but in a short time I have poured my little heart and soul into this bad boy and I am really happy that I am being recognized and honored by the food blogging community. I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and dammit, people like me :)

2) Seven blogs I find brilliant (in no particular order). I would list Justine’s blog, aka The Confession & Honesty Diva herself, as numero uno but since she’s already been tagged, here are 7 others:
a.http://heathereatsalmondbutter.com/
b.http://www.kristensraw.blogspot.com/
c.http://www.choosingraw.com/
d.http://www.fitnessista.com/
e.http://veggiegirlvegan.blogspot.com/
f.http://www.girlonraw.com/
g.http://www.lovinmytummy.wordpress.com/ (Even though she’s blogging in stealth mode these days, here’s to hopin’ Sarah comes back out to the forefront!)

3) Ten honest things about myself…Well, Justine said in her post that I had Hot Abs.
So #1 would be that I do work at my body and looking good is very important to me.

This pic was taken this morning after a run and before ashtanga yoga.

#2 I graduated high school when I was 16 with a 4.0 GPA and graduated cum laude with my BA in Psychology at age 20.

#3 My daughter is the most important person in the world to me.

#4 My husband is a close second. How do you pick, really, who ranks higher between your spouse and your child?

#5 In my early 20s, I lived on Triscuits & PB, Vodka, Maraschino cherries, and not much else. If someone told me then that I’d be a food blogger, I’d have laughed and told ’em to pour me another drink!

#6 Becoming a mother was the single most life-changing event. It helped me discover the person I was meant to become.

#7 I am only going to have one child.

#8 My husband is 17 years older than I am.

#9 We own a home on the island of Aruba and have many times considered living there full-time and forgetting about the American Dream, I mean American Rat Race.

#10 I cannot go a day without exercise. Either yoga, running, walking, quick crunches or pilates moves, I do something, every single day. No matter what. I never skip a workout. Ever.

Wow, I hope I didn’t bore anyone or that those weren’t too random.

Since this is a food blog after all, here was last night’s dinner.
*Broc
*Greens
*Carrots
*Sun Dried Tomatoes
*Brussels’s Sprouts
*Agave, Juice of 1/2 orange, and Crack Black

And here was brekky so far today. An organic TJ’s white peach. Gonna miss it when peaches go out of season and cardboardy for a few months and then non-existent for many more months.

I am feeling really good that I was honored. It makes me grateful. That’s my Tip of the Day: Be Grateful. When the chips are down and the last thing you feel like being is grateful, that’s probably the time you need it the most. I have reminded myself that I have my health, my family, and a million other awesome things and remembering that and giving thanks and gratitude for what I do have helps to diminish some of the drama I am going through right now.

  1. Averie – thanks so much for your quick response to my question about storing smoothies. I think shortcut is the way to go…I am going to start making them at night and then can just grab and go to work in the morning – what a time saver!!!! :) Thanks a bunch

  2. Hi Sam thanks for finding me and glad you love the blog! The question of how long is it safe in the fridge vs. how long would the nutrition be at the optimal state is probably the better question.

Safe…2-3 days I have done before and not ended up sick.

    Optimal nutrition…consume immediately. S

So, as a busy mom I take shortcuts and choose the path that's in between not giving us food poisoning but still getting all our goodies in, without having to go thru the process every day, rather more like every 48 hrs or so.

Your mileage may vary, but it's worked for us for the past couple years. Hope that helps!

VG–I just stocked up on so many greens it's nuts, I will post later today with the outcome!

  3. Hi Averie – just recently found your Blog and I love it. I was just wondering about your smoothie and storing it in the fridge – how long to you think it is safe to store a blended smoothie in the fridge?
    Thanks,
    Sam

  4. Go for kale, swiss chard, mustard greens, collards, and romaine!! The best.

Hope to see an email from ya soon!! ;)

  5. VG-I need to mix it up with the greens and til recently I used to buy whole heads of lettuce and clean them leaf by leaf, or my CSA box produce is that way, but lately…too damn busy with other projects so I cheat with the prepackaged greens. I am about to check out Costco's organic greens, I have heard good things.

Lisa-It's been a clusterfu*k and we were supposed to be outta here already but hopefully within the next couple weeks. And you're preggo body is glowing, yoga or not :)

Jess thanks for the shout out!

As for the vitamix–I waited years to buy it and should have bought it sooner. Would have saved myself $ in the long run. And been healthier, too :)

  6. Ah no worries – you can spend more time at the park on another day ;-)

By the way, I totally use the TJ's organic greens all the time, haha.

  7. I am so wanting a vitamix, have for years. Your yoga pics make me miss my yoga body. Can't wait to have this little babe and get back to the practice! Great blog by the way. When do you move?

  8. Thanks for stopping by ladies! Thanks for the yoga compliments. I practice everyday, labor of love. VG-I wish the park would have lasted longer…she was just not that into it. Oh well, I enjoyed the sun on my skin for a bit :)
