Crossroads for My Blog: Saftey & Security Violations, When Blogging Impacts Real Life

Hi Friends.  It is with a very heavy heart that I write this post.  When I started my blog a little over a year ago, I had no idea the amazing friends I would make, the connections that would develop amongst virtual strangers and me.  That’s the problem, though.   There are a lot of virtual strangers who read my blog.  If I get 75 comments per post, that means there are still thousands of people per day that visit my blog and I have no idea who they are, but they know a whole lot about me, my family, and my life.

Recently there have been a few instances where my safety and security, my family’s safety and security, and our privacy as a whole have been compromised because of my blog.  It’s no secret that my life is an open book on my blog.

I have always said I blog for interpersonal connections Here, Here, Here, or Here.  I don’t blog only to show the food I made because that does not hold my own interest

I am told over and over through hundreds of glowing and appreciative emails and comments each week that my readers thoroughly appreciate my candor, my openness, my willing to share my thoughts and life with you all.  And thank you to my readers.  As Scott has said, these security breeches are a result of my success and because I do have readers.  However, it seems my sharing and openness has exposed me and my family and left us vulnerable, feeling violated, and frankly, scared.

I don’t have to share my life with total strangers, I don’t “get anything out of it”.  I am not a celebrity being paid to share what I do, what I eat, where I go, how I parent, what my workouts are, you name it.  I simply like to share what I’m up to and the blog is fun, and I enjoy helping people, virtually speaking.  But not at the risk or expense of my safety or my family’s safety.

Obviously you can understand that I am not going to go into the various and specific instances that have occurred, but suffice to say I am rattled and being that I am way more than “just” a food blogger, that my blog is so intertwined with my life, I am not sure where this leaves me.

Do I want to blog?  Yes.

Do I want to blog the way I always have? Yes.

Do I think it is wise for my safety or my family’s safety to continue blogging as I always have? No.

What am I going to do?  Continue to not post pictures of Scott, be much more vague about locations/places/whereabouts, give less information about Skylar, give less personal or identifying information about myself, and still try to blog about my life, but be more careful.

Am I shutting down my blog?  No.

Do I wonder if I am nuts for continuing my blog?  Yes, definitely.

Will I continue to Post Daily?  Yes.

From Yesterday…
I’m glad you guys were so into the Peanut Flour from TJ’s.

Yes, me too!  I can’t wait to make all the recipes I showed you from yesterday like my

No-Bake Vegan Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls (with a High Protein Option)

For those of you who asked, I have a feeling it’s very similar to PB2, but since I haven’t cracked the seal on it yet, I am not sure.  But I have a feeling, it’s darn close.  I’ll keep you posted.

Amazing stats:  16 g of Protein, 4 g of fiber, 110 calories, and Gluten Free.  Sweet!
Thanks for filling me in on all your TJ’s faves like coffee, salsas, dried fruit, and some of their produce.  Some of it is just so-so, but some of it can be awesome.  Like Evan said though, some of their food, in general, isn’t all that “healthy” and can contain some sketchy ingredients.  As I’ve always said, you must read the labels on everything.

And I enjoyed hearing on if you believe you get what you pay for in life.  Most people agreed that yes, you do, but that there are always exceptions to every rule and sometimes you can score with el cheapo items that end up being great.

Questions
1. Have you experienced any fallout or real spillover into your real life as a result of blogging?
I think many of us have experienced wonderful things, meeting new friends, sharing connections with like-minded others, learning about new ways of eating, working out, lifestyle choices, and that type of thing.   Has anything more negative ever happened?
2. I know some of you have said that your family, friends or real-life acquaintances read your blog and that they may not agree with how you live your life or the choices you make.  Tell me about this.  Has it changed the way you blog?  Do you blog mostly the same, or do you alter your words greatly?  Do you feel you have to censor yourself?
3. When you encounter extreme stress does your body go into shutdown mode or do you experience physical symptoms?
I am not going to lie, I feel awful.  I have been shaking, living in the bathroom; I’m sad, anxious, and confused.  I just keep asking why.   I hate that old adage, what doesn’t kill you just makes you stronger.  No, sometimes it leaves you feeling beat up and left for dead on the side of the road.
4. Share one Positive Thing about your Day or a Positive Thought.  Positive Energy is Needed!
Positive = I went shopping and found some cool things!
Major shoutout to my girls Madeline, Jessica, and Katie.  I love you all.  Thank you for being there for me!
