More Pumpkin Ideas, Favorite Remedies for Colds & Viruses, Working Out When You’re Sick

Hi Friends!  I hope you’re having a good start to your week.  It is so hot here!  It’s 95F and downright HOT!  I feel sorry for the people inland; I am at the coast and it’s this hot here, so I can only imagine what it’s like inland.  And of course for Phoenix folks like Madeline, props to you for dealing with extreme heat half the year.   Even though I do have a cold, I went to the gym and got a nice lifting session in.  It was nice to sweat.  Sweat it out, I guess, right?   Now I have a full day of errands, phone calls, emails, bill paying, you know glamorous stuff to take care of in store.

I have a couple More Pumpkin Items today.  I’ll just play out the pumpkin content on my blog since everyone else in the sphere already is too…ha!

See This Post if you missed my First Round of Pumpkin Recipes.  Like No-Bake Vegan GF Pumpkin Pie or Vegan Pumpkin  Spice Donut Holes.

Today’s Pumpkin Items…
Skylar and Scott have been snacking on Whole Wheat bread, compliments of Nature’s Pride + Peanut Butter + TJ’s Pumpkin Butter.   I am strictly GF so cannot eat this bread.

If you’re not familiar with pumpkin butter, there’s nothing “buttery” about it.  It’s more like pumpkin puree meets jelly.  I love the stuff.

I picked up a 99 cent mini-pumpkin from the grocery store the other day

Items may appear larger than they are.
This is a mini, palm-sized pumpkin but perfect for a centerpiece.
And perfect for a little girl to get excited about.
It’s the little things in life when you have kids.  She talks about this 99 cent pumpkin nonstop and is so proud we picked it out, together.

From yesterday’s post about What I’ve Learned as a Blogger, it was great to hear what You’ve Learned, too.  It seems we have all found a nice sense of community, we’ve found what works for us, i.e. our own blogging voice and not anyone elses, we’ve become better writers, better cooks, become more experimental in the kitchen, learned the tech side to blogging.  Read the comments if you have time as it was just a joy to hear from all of you.  Truly some heart-warming things were mentioned.

Thanks for the compliments on our weekend pictures and for sticking up for me on that sports bra situationYeah, whatever, it’s hot.  It’s a sports bra, get over it.  You see more on the beach than you do in a sports bra!  Or walking around the mall with everyone’s plumber’s cracks hanging out!

Some of you mentioned that you do think there’s some truth to rapid temperature shifts bringing on the sickie germs and others of you don’t think it matters as much.  Who knows.

Questions
1. Best thing you ate or did over the weekend?
Scott, Skylar and I went out and had some fun together, but you’ll have to sit tight until tomorrow for the pictures.  There’s a ton to upload.  We had a freakin’ ball out!

2. Do you workout when you’re sick?
If I didn’t have the energy, I would have skipped it.  But I had the energy and it felt great to sweat.

I know their are different schools of thought on this; if it’s a head cold and the sickness is “head up”, it’s “safe to workout”.  However, if it’s “below the head” and more of an overall body sickness/flu, then you’re not supposed to work out.

All I can say is no two people, energy levels, illnesses, are the same and if you want to and feel up to it, go for it.  If not, skip it.  Not rocket science for me but just curious what you do.

3.  Do you do anything special if you feel an illness coming on?  Or take or do anything special?
Holistically speaking, zinc, echinacea, ginger, garlic, extra vitamin C, extra probiotics, fermented foods, are all great for immune boosting.  Astragalus root is great before you feel sickness, too, but once you’re actually sick, stop astragalus and switch over to lots of echinacea.

Common sense like proper sleep and rest, good food, water and proper hydration, of course are so important.

I’ve posted Here about my Thoughts on Vitamins and Supplements

and also Here about What Supplements I take, i.e. probiotics and more

By and large, I find that my immune system is extremely strong when I am sleeping more than 4 hours a night and eating a high raw vegan, plant-based diet.  But if I don’t sleep, if I am stressed about things and not practicing the self-care that I should be, opportunistic viruses will strike.

No one’s body is infallible, but in general terms, I don’t take or do anything “special”, other than just living the way I would live anyway, which with sleep, keeps me illness-free.   But having a toddler bring home every last germ from kid’s club at the gym doesn’t help matters….ha!

See you tomorrow with pictures from our fun evening out!
