New Shoes, New Gym Review, Running Races
Hi Friends! How has your weekend been so far? I’ve been keeping busy with work, but I’ve also had some nice family time. We just had a nice walk and time together as a family. It’s also a beautiful day here and that just makes everything extra lovely.
Earlier in the week I got new shoes. I replace my shoes every 3 months. First, because my joints just tell me it’s time. Lots of aches and pains otherwise.
Secondly, the Nike’s that I love in all other aspects called the Vomero’s….
….Well, something about my left toe and the way the shoe is made don’t get along and my toe pops through. Usually at the 3 month mark.
So, I got a new pair
The bonus of the Nike Store was that they had free mini Luna bars. Nothing like keeping a toddler happy with Free Luna Bars.
Remember I said in This Post that I was going to try a new gym, same chain and company, but different location because they had later/longer kid’s club hours?
Well the gym itself is beautiful. It’s in a bit of a sketchy area of town but more so than that, the route to the gym is not easy to get to for me. I spent 15 minutes just getting to the freeway and then had another 10-15 minute drive. So, in the end, I spent 30 minutes each way in my car as opposed to 3 minutes. Not good.
The other random thing that happened was after I filled out all my paperwork for kid’s club, dropped Skylar in it, and was about 20 minutes into my workout, I was paged. I sprinted to the kid’s club area thinking there was a horrible crisis, that Skylar was hating it, or something truly awful had happened for them to page me. No. They just needed me to fill out one additional piece of paper. I asked them, why did you page me, for this? Could it not have waited a half hour until I picked her up? No real answer. That totally broke the zone of my workout and I never really got back into it. Ugh.
So, somehow I need to restructure my day in order to get to the gym I always go before their kid’s club closes, since driving an hour to and fro to this other branch, is not a timesaver nor practical!

From yesterday’s post about going Gluten Free and talking about Food Allergies and Intolerances. Many of you already are GF for whatever your personal reasons. And others would like to reduce the amount of gluten containing and processed grains in your diet. I think that’s great for all the reasons I mentioned yesterday.
I’m glad my tips, advice, and thoughts about how to get to the bottom of your food allergies, or suspected allergies, were helpful. No one except you can figure it out. Trust your intuition! As I mentioned yesterday and have many times in the past, I am not a dietitian, nutritionist; I am not a “trained professional” but was simply sharing my thoughts, what has worked for me, and how I got to the bottom of my own allergies and intolerances.
Like I mentioned, too, don’t think of it as what you’re Giving Up. But what you’re gaining, in health.
And you can still eat great foods that people normally think of as containing gluten, like GF Vegan Pancakes
For a nice weekend breakfast I made Overnight Peanut Butter-Banana-Vanilla-Chia Oats
Combine all ingredients the night before and refrigerate and either eat as is the next morning, or nuke for a minute or two.
Dessert: My Raw Vegan Apple Crumble
If it’s hot where you are and you can’t be bothered to turn on your oven at all, or you just don’t want to bake, try unbaking. You can also sub-out apples, and sub-in any fruit from nectarines to blueberries to plums to strawberries to pears.
1. Best Thing You’ve Ate or Done This Weekend so far?
Me = The lovely walk with my family and just being outside in the fresh air with them!
2. How often do you replace your shoes?
3 months, 4 tops, for me.
3. Do you buy the same shoes over and over, or at least the same brand, over and over if you know they work?
I have long, thin feet, and Nike’s are the ticket for me. I need lots of cushioning, don’t care about too much support and actually hate it when shoes are overly supportive and “grip” my heels or feet. That’s why I stick with what I already know works for me. I look at the little toe tears as a minor inconvenience since I’d be replacing my shoes at 3 months, 4 tops, anyway.

Madeline is running a Marathon in my Great home state of Minnesota and has trained through the hot Phoenix summer to do it!
The Pure Twins are running the Disney Half! I ran that race with Scott years ago and it’s my favorite racing memory of all times. Disney just makes it magical!
Holly has a 10-miler that she is going into even though she “Broke up with Running”. Love your laidback attitude about it, Holly!
Christine, my Raw Friend, is running her race this weekend in northern CA too!
Naomi is running, on her birthday, tomorrow. Go get ’em tiger!

4. Have you ever run a race? Would you like to?
I used to race so much before Skylar and Scott and I would race together. At least 2 races per month, most every month, for years. I miss it but it’s a major time commitment, and race entry fees do add up over time especially when it’s two of us. But really, 5am race morning alarm clocks and me aren’t the best of friends anymore, either…haha!
5. What’s the maximum amount of time you’d spend in transit/commuting to a gym?
I have to say that any more than 15 minutes each way, I’d really have to question it. At that point, I’d just use my Home Gym which these days consists of doing moves with my exercise balls and 12 pound dumbbells.
