Happy Birthday!

Hi Friends!  I hope you’ve had a good day and are staying warm and not stressing out over the holidays.

I would be remiss to mention that it was someone’s birthday here yesterday.

Not My Birthday

Not Skylar’s Birthday

It was Scott’s Birthday!   (for those of you who have asked, due to his job and privacy issues, I can’t post pictures of him on my blog)

This is what he wanted for his birthday meal.  He loves eggs and sweet potatoes so that’s what he got.  And a small salad and veggies because I just had to give him some greenery.

The lighting in my kitchen here gets the award for the worst possible lighting ever known making photography nearly impossible

I wasn’t turning on the oven, and it’s not gourmet but it’s what he wanted.  And I gave the birthday boy what he wanted.  Plus veggies.

Here was the “Birthday Cake” I picked up for him.  A dense, brown sugar and cinnamon raisin type coffee cake.  It was almost like a bread pudding he said.  It’s what I could find in a hurry because I wasn’t turning on an oven here and baking a cake myself.

Can’t beat the price.  That’s about $1.20 in US Dollars.  I don’t know how they can make it with all the butter and sugar that is no doubt in it.  For a just over a buck.

And this was one Moist Cake.  Not a favorite word, but this sucker is moist.  This small cake weighed about 2 pounds.   Must be all that butter and sugar.  And he said that’s what made it taste so good and almost pudding-like.

Skylar gobbled up these little pieces like it was her job.

I also wanted to put candles in it, but I couldn’t find any.  Oh well.  He loved the cake even without candles.  And he loved that we spent our day together as a family!

Thanks for your feedback from my post this morning on Gifts and Gift Guides, Your Most Memorable ever, and Hard to Buy for People and what you buy them.

Mostly, thanks for the DSLR Camera tips and infoClearly based on some of my photos here in Aruba, I need all the help I can get.  I blame the worst lighting, ever, in the kitchen here.

It’s a lot of info and opinions to process, but I am going to make a purchase, soon, and will be continuing to do my research and thank everyone who chimed in.  More than likely I am leaning toward the Canon Rebel T2i because it does video.

I am also probably going to upgrade from the stock lens.  Not sure which lens I am going to buy.  I’ve heard great things about the 50mm 1.4 and the 50mm 1.8.  The later being far cheaper than the former.  Susan also found This Post for me about the difference between those two.  Madeline and many others of you also told me to check Craigslist for lenses.

Great tips and feedback from everyone who has a DSLR.  To anyone who’s in the market for a DSLR, the comments are informative to read.

Tips of the Day:
1. The Total Lunar eclipse Monday night (for North and South America).  There will be two in 2011, but North America will miss the June 2011 one, and the next one in December 2011, will not be visible for everyone in North America.  Get outside, tonight!

2. My $50 iHerb Give Away!

Dessert:  Scott also had a few Chocolate Covered Oreo Balls with his Birthday Cake.   I don’t blame him!

Questions
1. Best thing you ate or did over the weekend?
Just being with my family and trying to make Scott’s birthday as special as possible while away from home and he said I succeeded.  So that was a good feeling for me!

2. How do you like to celebrate your birthday?  All out festivities and big party(s) or more low key?
I used to love to make my birthday more like a birthday week than just a day.  But the older I get, the more I don’t care.  That much.  After you become a parent one’s own birthday just seems so unimportant and it’s all about your child’s birthday.  Turning 4 is a lot more exciting than my next birthday, trust me.

3. Anyone ever thrown you a Surprise Birthday Party or have you ever thrown one for someone?
I would be next to impossible to surprise because I am anal and would catch any and all sneaky moves and suspicious behavior surrounding my birthday.  So no one has ever thrown me a surprise party.

And I haven’t ever thrown anyone a surprise party but I do remember my mom organizing a surprise party for my Dad’s 40th Birthday when I was a kid and boy, was he surprised.  And then some!  It was a great night that I still remember all these years later.

See you all in the morning!  I am knee deep in camera research.  I am going to be buying something soon.  I hope my Amex still loves me in the morning…haha…
