The Great Fundraising Act

Do you read Susan’s Blog?

If you don’t know Susan or read her blog, she’s an amazing young woman, an awesome person, just a total sweetheart.

I met her at Food Buzz last fall

She loves her beer and has the most amazing collection of beer-themed recipes!

I have been reading her blog for the past few years following along with all the twists and turns of her life.

Recently, things have taken a very, very unfortunate twist for Susan and she was diagnosed with cancer at age 25 (Hodgkins Lymphoma).

There are many posts on her site about the what she has, how it’s being treated, and what she’s enduring.  My heart just goes out to her.

She obviously has tons of medical bills and that’s where The Great Fundraising Act comes in, which got off the ground because of JanethaAnother amazing woman!

What does this mean?

It means there are hundreds of items that have been donated and are being auctioned off in an effort to help raise money for Susan with 100% of the proceeds going to Susan.

On Monday, July 25th, there will be live auction and bake sale from 8:00 AM (EST) to 11:00 PM (EST) on Janetha’s site

Here’s a sneak peak of the items being auctioned

I am donating High Raw Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls

I hope you place a bid on these babies.

Here they are on Janetha’s Site

I donated these in Katie’s auction and Tina’s auction so hopefully they will bring in a few dollars for Susan, too

And if you don’t bid on these, please bid on some of the other items that so many amazing bloggers and other companies are donating.

Help Susan out!  Please bid!!!!  On my cookie dough balls or anything else!

And if you don’t want to bid, you can donate directly by clicking here

You can use PayPal, a bank account or any major credit card to donate to The Great Fundraising Act.  If you would like to do this, simply click here.

From my last post, great discussion going about hard work and luck, and whether you believe in luck, in fate, or in good old hard work.  I’ve loved all the comments and thoughts on the matter.

Also, thanks for the entries on the barre3 DVD giveaway.  Three winners will be chosen and announced on Monday.

Questions:

1. Have you ever bid on anything in an auction?  What was it?

I love ebay.  I actually have to refrain myself from bidding.  I have to set a mental ceiling or else I am tempted to bid again if I am outbid!  I hope no one sets any mental ceilings with the items up for bid for Susan.

I also have memories of going to real auctions with my mom and dad as a child and they’d bid on antiques.  I thought they were crazy.  Now, I don’t think that’s so crazy after all!

2. What fun thing(s) are you doing this weekend?

I plan to bake!

And also enjoy the gorgeous San Diego weather with a nice run outside

while admiring the pretty flowers.

I hope you’re having a great weekend!

I’m not sure if I can bid in the auction (I want to but I’ll have to see if I can do it from my phone).

I go through ebay addict phases—and in general, if I’m going to buy something kind of expensive, I look there for a New with Tags or New in Box listing. I got my kitchen aid mixer, dehydrator, and vitamix on ebay and saved significantly on all of them. I try very hard to limit myself to things I really want/need though after a few money-wasting purchases…

I’m taking my nephew to disney world later today–for a week. Disney is like the opposite of reality—and now that he’s 7, I’m hoping he’ll be more daring and go on the scarier faster rides!

Thanks for posting about the auction–I’ll do my best to bid, and if I can’t I’ll just donate!
    Have a great weekend!

thank you for sharing this, averie — my aunt had the same type of cancer. Sending good fundraising vibes out to Susan, along with healing energy. This weekend I’m teaching a yoga class, having a lunch picnic on the beach, and trying to stay cool. I hope you’re well!

Yes I read her blog and that was so heartbreaking. What a great cause, Averie. And such a sweet post.

    1. Yes, not in awhile, but I’ve participated in a few online auctions.
    2. Going to the raw health fest with my mom and meeting my sisters for a vegan brunch in Sac.

I’m so excited about this auction. My mom had Hodgkin’s lymphoma when I was in high school and it was a nightmare for me, let alone how SHE felt going through seemingly endless rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. My heart truly goes out to anyone suffering through such a painstaking recovery process.

Good weekend planned! Got a rainy run in, now the sun is shining and it’s almost pool party time, plus a hike with the parents in the morning! Enjoy your baking and running, and enjoy Scott being home again!

YAY! :) I cannot WAIT for this auction, it is already so amazing and it hasn’t even begun! this is such an awesome and powerful community.

I love blogger auctions, and almost always donate an item and bid too ;) and I used to really love eBay too… I used to sell skin care and cosmetics on eBay and I used to shop a lot there too… I still look every now and then for things (just this morning I did a search for a new ladder for our pool!) :)

this weekend? last night we went to a wedding – one of my oldest friends got married <3 <3 and today we're going to sushi lunch and getting ready for a big grilling + pool party tomorrow – wee!

happy baking Averie, have a great weekend!

I love ebay. I love your dough balls. I love this idea!

My very very good friend from high school had Hodgekin’s Lymphoma about 5 years ago. He got a new job at a new university, found out his wife was pregnant with their second kid, and found out he had cancer in the same week. Not that you ever want cancer, but this has the best survival rate…which is a small silver lining, I suppose.

Thank you for brining this auction to my attention. It’s so sad when someone developes a disease. But, it’s also wonderful to see people coming together to try to help and make a difference. Have a beautiful day in San Diego!!!

So lovely of you to donate for the Great Fundraiser…I will definitely bid on something, which is a double win, because it will help out Susan, but should I be lucky enough to ‘win’ any of the auctions, some friends of mine in the US will get a nice, baked (or not baked ;-)) surprise in the mail :-) What an amazing community this is!

I really love your sunflower photo…it looks almost like a painting!? Really pretty!!!
