The Easiest Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels

Two of my favorite things about going to the mall are Cinnabon’s and Auntie Anne’s Pretzels. Sometimes it’s hard for me to choose which one I want. Long gone are the metabolism days where I can have both.

So, I made soft pretzels that taste like Cinnabon’s so that I don’t have to choose.

These are the easiest and fastest soft baked pretzels you’ll ever make because they start with a tube of Pillsbury Grands Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls. No yeast dough to worry about or wait for to rise. I love these from-scratch cinnamon rolls and scratch pretzels but I also appreciate shortcuts.

What’s in Soft Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels?

To make copycat Cinnabon cinnamon sugar soft pretzels, you’ll need:

How to Make Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels

Simply uncoil the cinnamon rolls, reshape them into pretzels, and bake. They’re ready in less than 15 minutes minutes. Love that.

While the pretzels bake, make the tangy cream cheese glaze. Cream cheese frosting and cinnamon rolls are a match made in heaven and the sweet yet tangy glaze with the warm pretzels is epic.

You’ll have more glaze than you need as a drizzle, so feel free to start dunking the pretzels in it like I do. I can’t get enough of this copycat Cinnabon cream cheese frosting!

Can I Use Homemade Cinnamon Rolls?

Be my guest! If you’re determined to make these copycat Cinnabon cinnamon sugar pretzels from scratch, I recommend using my quick 1-hour cinnamon rolls recipe to make your life as easy as possible.

Tips for Making Cinnamon Sugar Soft Pretzels

These baked soft pretzels are best warm and fresh, but will keep for up to 4 days in an airtight container at room temperature.  Reheat for 10 to 15 seconds in the microwave before serving.

Although there is glaze included in the tube of cinnamon rolls, I prefer my homemade glaze. It tastes more like the actual Cinnabon frosting, in my humble opinion.

I’ve only made this recipe using the Pillsbury brand cinnamon rolls, but I’m sure you could use another brand if needed. Likewise, you can use a gluten-free or vegan cinnamon roll option, if desired.

Ingredients

Instructions

Pretzels:

  • Preheat oven to 350F, line a baking sheet with a Silpat or spray with cooking spray; set aside.
  • Uncoil one Cinnabon roll and reshape into a pretzel (tutorial here), place on baking sheet, and repeat with remaining 4 rolls.
  • Bake for about 13 to 14 minutes or until just set; don’t overbake. Pretzels firm up dramatically as they cool. Allow pretzels to cool on baking sheet.
  • While pretzels bake, make the glaze.

Glaze:

  • To a medium bowl, add the cream cheese, confectioners’ sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and beat with an electric handheld mixer on medium-high speed until smooth and combined. Add additional milk as necessary to achieve desired consistency.
  • Drizzle glaze over pretzels and serve immediately.

Notes

Storage: Pretzels are best warm and fresh but will keep airtight for up to 4 days; reheat for 10 to 15 seconds in the microwave before serving.
You’ll have more glaze than you need as a drizzle so feel free to start dunking the pretzels in it. Extra glaze will keep airtight in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Although there is glaze included in the tube of rolls, I prefer my homemade glaze.

  1. I saw this recipe and was thinking this was a new yeast based cinnamon roll “Cinnabon” recipe to try~  I was initially disappointed that this was just a twist on a simple pop-n-fresh premade cinnamon roll.  **Sigh.**  For those looking for a simple, quick cinnamon roll fix, this looks good!  Oh well, I’ll keep scrolling down.

  2. Yum, yum yum. I think I could seriously enjoy ANY flavor of big soft pretzel, but this and the standard salt and my tops.

    1. I also just had a general question – you make so many serious indulgent amazing sweets – where do you put all of them?! Haha, I love baking but I just live with myself and my boyfriend, and when I bake even 1 batch of cinnamon rolls or something, we end up with so many leftovers that the 2 of us just can’t finish on our own. Do you give a lot away or freeze?

      1. I have a child with an amazing appetite, she has friends, teachers, there’s my friends, neighbors, a freezer stash…there’s always someone who’s day is brightened up when you show up and hand them something sweet!

  3. Sweet #$%*&(* deliciousness. I seriously did say a curse (in awe and joy) upon opening this sweet and salty masterpiece of a blog post.

  4. I swear I don’t even realize I miss these things until you post them!!  Auntie Anne’s pretzels and Cinnabon AND The Great Cookie Company!  I just want to go to the mall, and eat all these things while pacing back and forth in front of Gloria Jeans so I can smell the coffee deliciousness.

    Ah, the mall.

    1. When I walk into the mall, I swear I can smell Cinnabon or Auntie Anne’s 2 department stores away! It’s intoxicating :) I was never that big on the Great Cookie but Mrs. Fields, oh yeah!

  5. Oh my gosh. This is speaking right to my stomach – I can never get enough pretzels. Love that you started with Pillsbury!!

  6. Auntie Ann’s is still here but I don’t think we have a Cinnabon anymore. A cream cheese glaze sounds great–a little tang to balance the sweet. Love your shortcut too– I’m guessing this whole recipe is cheaper than buying a single roll from cinnabon!

    1. Probably is cheaper, didn’t even think of that! And can’t believe you don’t have a Cinnabon anymore! Between the disappearance of so many Mrs. Fields and Cinnabon, what is the world coming to :)

  7. So easy and looks amazing! Ya know, I’ve never actually had a Cinnabon or Auntie Anne’s. I know, I know! I walk by all the time and yeah, I just wasn’t raised with it, so I don’t know what I’m missing. But I’d rather make your version anyway and get the best of both worlds!

    1. You don’t know what you’re missing but you have to try them! Seriously…love at first carby bite!
