Sink Your Teeth In, Rain & Flooding

Hi Friends!  We had a nice first day today of finally just being here however the weather is crappy and raining.  It is actually flooding here.  There are numerous road closures and there is over 2 feet of standing water in many places.  Driving around is challenging at best.  Hydroplane much?  So the beach is out of the question.  And rain is forecasted for many days to come.  Ugh.

But we’re keeping things in perspective.   This too shall pass.  Or so we hope.  And we hope that our roof doesn’t leak.  Much more.

On my last post, after we finally arrived on the island on Saturday late in the day and hit up the grocery store, we drove to our house, unpacked a ridiculous amount of groceries, unpacked our suitcases, got the house situated and everything from batteries in remote controls changed to hot water heater tanks turned on to finding the soap to sorting over a year’s worth of mail.  You may or may not be able to imagine quite how much work this was (and is every year), especially after the travel sojourn but hey, it’s all worth it in the end.

One of the first things I ate Saturday night was a green bowl and hit up my google reader.

Vegetables in bowl next to bowl of Vegan Slaw Dressing

Gena was talking about cookies and I didn’t have cookies on the brain, for once.  haha!  All I wanted was veggies!

I made myself some Vegan Slaw Dressing using a soy-based mayo I found on the island and went to town.

Dippage much?  God I love dip.  Sort of like frosting.  I like a little food with the dip, or cake with the frosting.  Just bring out a gallon drum of each.

And it felt great to sink my teeth into two of these.

Not having cookies and chocolate on the brain didn’t last too long.  haha!

I brought the last two from a recent batch in my suitcase and was overjoyed when I was reunited with them.  Actually had totally forgotten they were in there.

What a nice couple of “presents” in my luggage.  Check out the teeth marks in the homemade Vegan Chocolate Frosting.  Yum.  Made me forget about my travel day(s).

From yesterday’s post about the Bailey’s Free Samples I scored, it was fun to read about your favorite grocery store free samples.

And also thanks for sharing your thoughts about sleep, and how much you need, and if you think we can “train” ourselves to require less, and whether or not this is a good thing.  Interesting food for thought, gang!

I know I said I wasn’t going to comment on blogs as much (I didn’t and haven’t, and I read a lot of your blogs in stealth and boy is that efficient) and I said that I was going to unplug more, but it actually felt nice to zone out and read blogs.  Not to mention it’s raining here and the beach is a no-go.

Questions
1. Best thing you ate or did this weekend?
I’m in Aruba.  That’s my Best Of.  Period.  Even with the rain and flooding.

2. Ever been on a vacation where you got tons of rain?  Did it ruin your trip?
It sometimes rains here, but the island has experienced an unusually rainy fall and early winter.  Hopefully we catch a break with the rainy weather, soon!

I also remember going on Girl Scout overnight camping trips and family vacations as a kid where the rain put a major damper on the festivities.  Amusement parks, the beach, water parks, and things like that are out the window with rain.

3. Favorite food to make teeth marks in?
I just read Angela’s post about what she can sink her teeth into

And as a kid for me, it was Snickers Bars or Milky Way bars.   Or really any kind of dessert or chocolate that was smooth.  The smoother, the more chomp-able and teethmark-able.

And now, I like to sink my teeth into Raw Vegan Peanut Butter Cups

or Vegan Chocolate Frosting

or Chocolate Peanut Butter Coconut Oil Frosting

Wait, I like to make teeth marks in Raw Vegan Coconut Oil Chocolate

It may sound childish, but there is something so satisfying about “messing up” perfect, smooth chocolate by putting teeth marks into it.   Now I know why my mother kept me away from her holiday table settings and dessert buffets for fear I would chomp into her precious goodies!  haha!

Have a great week everyone!
