I’m excited for the weekend. It’s an 82F, sunny, and perfect day in San Diego. Just the kind of weather to start off the weekend properly.

We have such harsh winters here, haven’t you heard?

The best parts of my week include:

1. Updating my blog from this screenshot yesterday to what it looks like now.

Old version of averie cooks homepage with love veggies and yoga title

The major changes include header changed, font type and size changed, search and subscribe via email boxes tweaked, color scheme changed from black/teal to gray/coral.

In time, I will change the url over from loveggiesandyoga.com to averiecooks.com but for now, it remains LV&Y. One thing, and one set of sweaty palms, at a time.

I’m really loving the new look and I could have never done it without the help of Cory of Zesty Blog Consulting. He is professional, fast, responsive, reasonably priced, and will work with you until you’re happy; even on the pickiest of little details.

He has always been incredibly patient with me, on this project and on others, and won’t “sign off” on the project until I’m happy and satisfied, which is worth it’s weight in gold. Having someone care about my blog as much as I care about it is priceless. I would recommend Cory in a heartbeat to anyone.

2. I’m on a major tempeh kick, to the tune of two packages in three days.

Trader Joe's Organic 3 grain tempeh bag

I made this

And I’ve been slicing pieces and putting them on top of salads without even “doing” anything to the tempeh. It has so much texture and nuttiness and no pressing or cooking is required. Put on top of a salad, mixed up with salad dressing and other veggies, it’s been great.

3. Daylight Saving’s Time begins this weekend. Wow, that snuck up on me. Don’t forget to Spring Ahead and change your clocks.

I love having it stay lighter later into the evenings, if for no other reason than for dinnertime photography reasons, but I actually adore this time of year and the promise of spring, flowers blooming, and summer that’s on the horizon.

4. I’m also loving these cookies this week. Okay, every week I love cookies, but these are sort of a springtime-ish cookie.

5. I’m glad you’re all excited about the $50 Visa Gift Card and Peanut Butter Giveaway. Dark Chocolate Dreams is great.  And so is $50 bucks.

What’s been the best part of your week?

Any weekend Plans?

Enjoy time with your friends and family and have a great weekend!

  1. I LOVE the new look, Averie! It’s so clean and put together. You look great in that cute apron in your new picture, too!

    1. The pic has actually been up for about 6-8 weeks but the makeover just happened 2 days ago and I am so happy I just DID it! :)

  2. Averie, I love the new blog look! Your blog has always been beautiful, but I love that you’re evolving it as you go, those are my favorite types of blog :)

  3. I eat a lot of tempeh, too – sometimes a block a day! Try brushing it with a maple syrup/tamari blend, then coating with walnut meal – it’s DELICIOUS. And I think the reason I eat it so often.

Also, I was going to comment on your post about the name change of the site, but I just wanted to let you know that I’ve always admired the fact that you feed your little lady healthy, wholesome foods. That’s one of the reasons I started reading (years ago) in the first place. But, I definitely love the name change – suits you perfectly! And cannot wait to see more indulgent desserts.

Oh, and the best part of my week has been the stack of cinnamon roll pancakes I ate this morning. :)

    1. Girl I could go thru a block of TJ’s per day this past week if I had let myself. I was lovin’ it! I try to not go too ridiculously crazy with soy so figured a half block was good, per day :)

Your version sounds so good. I have a similar-ish tofu recipe but tofu requires pressing and tempeh is ready to go. love.that.

  4. Your blog looks great! Well it always did, but I’m loving the new color scheme. I bought tempeh to try once and it went bad before I ever mustered up the courage to actually try it. I was bummed too because most of the kinds I’ve found aren’t gluten-free. I did find one flavor of one brand that is gluten-free, which is the one I bought. I’ve just gotta actually get over my fear and EAT IT.

  5. I really like your new name/logo/color scheme . . . it looks sweet and cozy-homey – it’s a good reflection of what your blog’s style has evolved into.

I’ve only tried tempeh 2 times (both from my local co-op at their pre-prepared food bar) and I was not too impressed, however, maybe thrid time is the charm . . .I’ll have to try it again with something like the fig butter you used in your recipe. I guess the sauce is a big part of what makes tempeh tasty?

And, holy heck, I’m going to jump into that PB giveaway – yum!

  6. Love the new logo, so clean and classy. So glad you found someone good to work with, updating can be so frustrating. And love the tempeh kick, can’t beat the value of TJ’s tempeh and it’s such a versatile, easy-digesting protein and fiber source. I usually have to grab a few packages each TJ’s trip.

The best part of my week is it ending! J/K. :-) Probably the Fresh & Easy event on Tuesday, love free food and loot. Aside from a long run and maybe a little car browsing, no major plans this weekend.

  7. I am such a tempeh person… love it! And those cookies looks amazing!

Enjoy that gorgeous weather! It’s 39*F in Wisconsin, so I’ll have to live vicariously through you ;)

    1. I was telling a friend, there’s no way I could EVER leave San Diego b/c I can promise you that it was NOT 84F and sunny in Mpls or Chicago yesterday. But 39F in Wisc isn’t “awful” for March, it could be -39F . Stay warm though!!!

  8. I love the new look of your site. and I think the name suits the site much better. Great choice :)
I’m pretty jealous of your San Diego weather right now. Although it is a nice weekend in Salt Lake, this is not the norm.

  9. I like the new color; not quite pink, more like a mauve?

600 miles north of you, and we seem to have the same lovely weather. I’m planning on more bike riding after this morning’s boot-camp (which I am dreading because we were told to bring an extra set of lungs.)

  10. I like what you’ve done with the place! I think I started reading your blog even before I started mine. You were on blogspot then, IIRC. Anyway, very nice new design! It’s interesting to see progression and change :)

  11. the new tweaks look great! Loving the color scheme. It’s always fun to play around with new colors, fonts and stuff every now and then :) have a great weekend!

    1. funny that yes, it all does really boil down to “tweaks” but let’s just say in the thick of it, it felt more like a mega project than tweaks… lol

  12. I’m kind of on a tempeh kick too. I made Isa Chandra’s tempeh sausage crumbles from Vegan With a Vengeance and they were AWESOME. Great idea putting the raw tempeh on a sald…so easy!

    1. I’ve seen recipes for that, and similar things, and now that reminds me to try them!
