Loaded Oatmeal Breakfast Bowl

This post is in partnership with The Quaker Oats Company.

Oatmeal is hearty, filling, and there are so many ways to make it new again.

Get out of your boring oatmeal rut and get ready for a breakfast that’ll help prepare you to take on the day.

There’s texture and flavor galore including bananas drizzled with melted peanut butter and a touch of cinnamon, fresh and juicy pomegranate arils, and a diced Quaker® Chewy Granola Bar with chocolate and strawberries.

If you want to swap peanut butter for almond butter, use fresh blueberries or strawberries rather than pomegranate, or use your favorite dried fruit and nuts, go for it. Use what you have on had and whatever will get you excited to eat your oatmeal.

I partnered with Quaker and want to share their upcoming Bring Your Best Bowl contest. You’re encouraged to submit your most delicious oatmeal creation using 2 to 5 everyday ingredients for a chance to win $250,000 and for your oatmeal flavor to debut on store shelves. See the bottom of the post for the full contest details.

Loaded Oatmeal Breakfast Bowl

Oatmeal is hearty, filling, and there’s so many ways to make it new again. Get ready for a breakfast that’ll help prepare you to take on the day. There’s texture and flavor galore including bananas drizzled with melted peanut butter and a touch of cinnamon, fresh and juicy pomegranate arils, and a diced Quaker Chewy Granola Bar with chocolate and strawberries. The toppings can be swapped for what you have on hand and enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cups water (or milk)
  • 1 cup Quaker Old-Fashioned Oats (Quick 1-Minute Oats may be substituted and prepared according to directions on package)
  • pinch salt, optional and to taste
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons brown sugar, optional and to taste
  • 1/2 medium banana, peeled and sliced into thin rounds
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons creamy peanut butter, melted if desired
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate arils (strawberries, blueberries, or your favorite fruit may be substituted)
  • 1 Quaker Chewy Chocolate Strawberries Granola Bar, diced small

Directions:

  1. Add the water (or milk) to a medium pot and heat over medium-high heat until it boils.
  2. Add the oats, optional salt, and cook for about 5 minutes or until water is absorbed and oatmeal is tender; stir intermittently.
  3. Optionally add the brown sugar and stir to combine.
  4. Transfer oatmeal to a bowl and top with the banana, drizzle with peanut butter (heat peanut butter in a small, microwave-safe bowl for 8 to 10 seconds to melt it if desired), and add the pomegranate arils, granola bar pieces, and serve immediately. Oatmeal is best warm and fresh.

Quaker is on the hunt to find America’s next great oatmeal flavor by launching the Bring Your Best Bowl contest. The contest celebrates the versatility of oatmeal and all the ways to enjoy it by inviting Americans to submit their most inspired oatmeal flavors using 2-5 ingredients for a chance to win $250,000, and have their combination brought to life as Quaker’s newest oatmeal flavor.

To enter the national contest, you’re encouraged to visit www.BringYourBestBowl.com and enter your oatmeal submission, along with the inspiration behind it, now through March 12, 2016. No Purchase Necessary. All entries will be judged on the following criteria: originality, creativity and inspiration; realistic execution and potential for a delicious flavor of Quaker Instant Oatmeal; and simplicity and appeal to mass audience.

It will then be up to America to decide which oatmeal flavors come out on top. Three finalists will be announced on www.BringYourBestBowl.com on or around National Oatmeal Day – October 29, 2016 – with the flavors hitting shelves in stores nationwide for consumers to try and vote on online through November 19, 2016.

Once votes are in and tallied, the grand prize winner will be announced and rewarded with $250,000 in February 2017 along with the chance for their oatmeal creation to debut on shelves nationwide.
