Black Currant and Walnut Stuffed Baked Brie

Black Currant and Walnut Stuffed Baked Brie Appetizer — Gooey, AMAZING, salty-and-sweet!! Stuffed with jam, topped with walnuts, and so EASY! Perfect for holiday entertaining and parties!!

Easy Baked Brie with Jam

There’s a restaurant in San Diego that I was going to all the time over the spring and summer for their baked brie.

I literally had to wean myself off it and take a brie break. I love brie so much and tried to break up with the restaurant version.

I was doing okay until this way too easy, at-home baked brie appetizer recipe made its way into my life.

The walnuts add crunch while the black currants add chewiness, tartness, and robust flavor that perfectly complements the brie.

What’s in This Baked Brie Appetizer?

To make the baked brie cheese stuffed with jam, you’ll need three basic ingredients:

I’ve learned that black currants have a key growing region in Poland. Currants are not grown commercially in the US. They have a tart flavor profile and chewy texture with a robust flavor burst in each berry.

Hero is a ‘romance brand’ with Swiss heritage, known for their quality, and time honored approach to selection and slow fermentation. There are no preservatives.

You can buy Hero Fruit Spreads at ShopRite, King Kullen, Stop&Shop, Kings, ACME, Balduccis, Walmart, and more.

How to Make Baked Brie

I simply sliced a round wheel of brie horizontally, then added walnuts and Hero Black Currant Fruit Spread. Hero Fruit Spread is very popular in Europe and is chef preferred.

While Americans like the sound of “preserves,” “fruit spreads” actually describe jams with higher fruit content. You can also try their Black Cherry, Red Currant, or Bitter Orange varieties. Anytime I can add fruit to my diet by way of brie I’m super happy!

Once the brie has been stuffed with walnuts and black currant spread, it’s baked to gooey perfection!

How Long to Bake Brie?

An 8-ounce wheel of brie will need to bake for about 15 minutes at 350ºF. The cheese should be soft but not completely gooey.

Tips for Making Baked Brie with Jam

I baked the brie because there’s nothing like warm, melty brie for me, but you don’t have to and can serve it right away. Talk about super easy holiday entertaining!

Likewise, you’re welcome to use any flavor fruit spread or jam you’d like in this baked brie appetizer. You can even stuff it with leftover cranberry currant sauce from your Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner!

If you’re making this for the holidays to serve a large group and come across one of those very large wheels of brie that are often available prior to the holidays, I recommend adding about 1/2-cup each of the fruit spread and walnuts rather than 1/4 cup.

Ingredients

  • one 8-ounce round wheel brie
  • about 1/4 cup Hero Black Currant Fruit Spread, plus more for garnishing if desired
  • about 1/4 cup chopped walnuts, plus more for garnishing

Instructions

  • Slice the round of brie with one straight, horizontal cut to create two round halves.
  • Evenly spread Hero Black Currant Fruit Spread on the bottom half of the brie round.
  • Evenly sprinkle the chopped walnuts on top of the Hero Black Currant Fruit Spread.
  • Place the top layer of brie on top of the walnuts, creating a ‘sandwich’.
  • Optionally garnish with an extra dollop of fruit spread and walnuts on top and serve immediately with crackers, bread, crudites, etc. Or, if you prefer to bake the brie, place it in a small, oven-safe baking dish and bake at 350F for about 15 minutes, or until cheese has softened.
