I love a good sale.  I mean, who doesn’t.  When I was at the grocery store over the weekend I saw one, lone, seasonal bottle of Peppermint Mocha Coffe-Mate Creamer on sale for 79 cents and, on a whim, tossed it into my cart.

When I got home and used it, I am kicking myself I didn’t load up on this stuff while the gettin’ was good.

I use French Vanilla Coffee-Mate like it’s going out of style and I’m very loyal to it.  I like a little coffee with my creamer if you know what I mean.

French Vanilla Coffee-Mate

Many times when I try other flavors, I am not all that impressed.

They’re either too fake tasting (some fake is okay of course) and taste nothing like the real thing (Hazelnut or Irish Cream), too intense and overpowering (seasonal Pumpkin Spice or anything with Cinnamon in it), or too boring (Creme Brulee) and at  the usual price of $4.79 each, I’ve learned to just stick with my beloved French Vanilla.

But this Peppermint Mocha is one I will definitely be snatching up next holiday season because although it’s minty, it does not taste like I am drinking a bottle of Listerine, which is always good when it comes to flavored creamers.

I hate it when mint overpowers things and with mint, that’s easy to do.

The first time I made Creme de Menthe Bars (No-Bake, Vegan, GF) I learned that with mint, a little dab will do ya, and add slowly because you can’t un-do mint.

I’ve had just a couple itty bitty teeny tiny cups of (new) coffee over the weekend in the new coffee maker.  Best $25 bucks I’ve spent in awhile.

Open can of Cafe La Llave coffee

Tiny cups of coffee are so wonderful.  Or something like that.

Small cup of coffee

Gotta love the Big 20 ouncer.  I drink coffee at home in my go-cup because it’s a huge vessel and with coffee, the more, the merrier.

I drank hot coffee and enjoyed the 79F golden weather we had in San Diego all weekend.

Blue Sky and Palm Trees

It was picture perfect.

Not a cloud in the sky, no humidity, no bugs, no clouds, just 75 to 79F and sunny all weekend and today is shaping up to be the same.

Yellow Flower

However, I played nursemaid to a sick little girl all weekend and we didn’t get to spend very much time outside.  New school, new kids, new germs, but she’s on the mend.

I didn’t get any much sleep, thus the coffee.

And there may have been a couple Ritz Cracker Stuffed Peanut Butter Cups (No Bake) involved, too.

Do you use coffee creamer?  Any favorites?

I do like a little coffee with my creamer.  The creamier the better is my approach.

I prefer the Coffee-Mate line to the International Delight brand of creamers.

I’ve tried So Delicious Coconut milk creamers.  They’re fine but I prefer the highly processed ones to more natural coconut-based creamers, and the same can be said for Silk’s soy-based creamers.  They just don’t give me that ahhh feeling if I’m being perfectly honest.

But guessing from the fact that there are about 20 flavors at any given time with a constant rotation of seasonal flavors, and multiple different mainstream brands doing this; and sticker prices in the nearly $5 dollar range per quart (dictated by supply and demand), I know I’m not alone in loving my flavored creamers.  What are your faves?

How was your weekend?  What was the best thing you did or ate?

I’ve got to get to the oven and get this out before I have a burnt mess because it’s probably going to be one of the Best Of’s that I ate…

  1. You are definitely not the only one who loves a good bargain…my dad is a supermarket sleuth…don’t believe me??? read this funny story with a happy ending https://the-healthy-diva.com/2012/01/21/roast-pork-with-caramelized-maple-onions/

I myself am not a coffee drinker, but I’m pretty sure that’s only a matter of time right??? I do love the smell :) Weekend was good, how was urs? Just got back from a trip on the coast and am nice and brown. Not much cooking to report, but back into that this week :)

  2. Coffee creamers of any variety are sugar, water, oil and chemicals. But I suppose if you want to be dairy free they might be the route to go. I don’t use them because of the amount of chemicals. I do use Mini-Moos which are half and half with a little preservative. It is at least real dairy. I’m sorry. I’ve never posted here and I bust in fussing about coffee creamer. It is one of my pet peeves, all those ingredients we don’t understand. I’m a label reader and I get obsessive about it. You can kick me out now. :)

  3. I am boring and use plain milk. I make creamer for my hubs though. I cook down half and half with sugar and vanilla beans or pumpkin spices and sugar or his new fave, brown sugar caramel and vanilla. He loves it in tea and coffee!

    1. Omg…I was just typing an email to someone and I wrote to take 1 c of cream or half and half and about 1/2 c white choc chips, vanilla, and boil that and make your own creamer. Yours sounds great, too. So many options, so much more coffee needs to be drank :)

  4. I tried that peppermint mocha, but I’m just not a fan of sweet coffee. But it was great in a smoothie. I tried to make ice cream with it also, but it didnt work very well.

Sorry Skylar was sick all weekend, but she’s lucky she had you! I was sick too, but no one was baking me deliciousness. Or working for me, for that matter.

    1. Ugh sorry you were sick too!

And I know you dont like sweet coffee. There is a property in creamers, and not sure what it is, but it won’t fully set up and/or acts strange. i.e. ice cream, in frosting, in pudding. Not sure what it is, something with the milk proteins that they alter them likely in the mfg process causing wonky baking/cooking results sometimes. But it works in donuts :)

  5. I’ve gone through lots of different phases with how I take my coffee. Currently I enjoy it black just because I figured if I can cut out the cost of creamer or half and half each week, I’m saving money on something that isn’t a necessity. So that’s honestly my reason! But I do LOVE it with heavy whipping cream. When I have that on hand I’m bound to have a great day.

  6. I love coffee creamers but I almost never buy them…I just pour whatever nondairy milk is open in my fridge into my coffee. If I did buy them, I’d get Hazelnut or Vanilla or some other similar flavor. Do they make a white chocolate one? WAIT WAIT – do they make a PEANUT BUTTER one?! Oh please say yes. I will go straight out and buy that.

    1. Considering it’s tricky to get vegan white chocolate, I am pretty sure no vegan white choc creamer. And even the regular mainstream white choc creamers are meh at best. You’d be better off melting white choc with cream or milk and using that as a (dessert) creamer :)

  7. There are definitely some sickies going around my office–multi-purpose community center serving children (6weeks-8th grade) and senior citizens!

Until recently I wondered WHY WHY WHY my delicious HOMEMADE coffee made me sick, but coffee from a coffee shop was fine. Then I realized–at home I use CREAMER! At the coffee shop I use soy milk or skim if no soy is available. I found SO Delicous coconut milk creamer @ Whole Foods and have been enjoying my morning coffee at my desk without the bellyache! (I like the vanilla. They had at least 2 other flavors–one was hazelnut.)

  8. I’m actually drinking a small cup of coffee with that Peppermint Mocha creamer RIGHT NOW at my desk. I def. needed a little sweet pick me up after lunch today and this is totally getting the job done :D Enjoy it while it’s still around!

  10. i tend to use milk instead of creamer, but i was at a restaurant once (a diner-ish sort of place) and asked for skim milk to which the waitress replied they didn’t have any milk (um, what?), but it turned out to be a fortunate situation as i was forced to experience the deliciousness that is french vanilla creamer. mama mia! it’s been a staple in our fridge ever since. and yes, looooove the seasonal peppermint — so glad you snatched one up last minute!

    1. french vanilla creamer was a gateway drug for me. started using it in h.s. and it’s fueled my coffee addiction ever since :)

  11. You can find peppermint mocha all year round now! It’s no longer just seasonal. Last bottle I bought said “Enjoy all year round!”

    1. oh! I hope this is true :)
[though, i must admit that I don’t know if could do peppermint mocha come, say, May. It’s v. much a wintery flavor for me!]

      1. I don’t think I could do peppermint mocha in May either but…I can do scorching hot coffee in August so who knows :)

  12. Hey girl! Sorry to hear Skyler was not feeling well this weekend. It’s no fun when your kids are sick :(

I’m still thinking about those s’mores you made up. Yummm! Going to make those for the next sleepover Zoe has.

The best thing I made and ate this weekend were these chickpea burgers. I am actually eating one right now and it’s delish. I’ve been drinking to much wine and eating to many sweets lately so I decided to do a mini cleanse this weekend. I went meat free and only ate parsnip soup, chickpea burgers, kale smoothies and my kale salad. I feel great today and full of energy!

    1. Glad your cleanse went well and if you make the smores, LMK. They would be a HUGE HUGE hit with kiddos at a sleepover.

      1. I will do girl and I know they would be a huge hit and such fun! When are you going to get your little recipe book put together? You really need to! I will totally buy copies and send them as gifts etc. You have one customer already!
