Natural Laundry Detergent, New Laptop Case & Buying Luggage

Hi Friends!  How’s your weekend going so far?  I am not thrilled with the dreary weather we’re having but still went on a nice walk with Scott and Skylar and did an at-home-weightlifting and yoga workout.  It’s always nice to work out at home on weekends.  Something about driving to the gym seems like extra work that I don’t want.

I won Kelli’s Give Away for Maggie’s Soap Nuts awhile back and just received my 8 loads worth of detergent.

Ingredients: Water, and then “Wild Harvested Soapberries“.  Really?  There is such a thing?  Guess so.
Thanks, Kelli and Soap Nuts!

From yesterday’s post that I’m going to Food Buzz, I am glad to hear a few of you are going who I  didn’t know were going so that’s great!  And for those of you who are newer to blogging, can’t afford it, or who for whatever reason you’re not going this year, rest assured I will fill you in on all the details as I blog about it.  I can’t wait to meet everyone, in person, at the festival!

Speaking of my festival trip to San Francicso, I had ordered a laptop case for the Trip I almost took, but didn’t.   It will come in perfectly handy for my Food Buzz trip, and our Trip to Aruba, too!

I bought my new-to-me Macbook a month or so ago and it fits perfectly inside this “book”.

It’s a “book” that uses recycled leather but is actually a laptop case.  Perfect to not draw tons of attention to the valuable contents inside.  I ordered it from Amazon after seeing one that one of the tattoo artists at the tattoo shop had.

It’s a snug fit for my 13 inch white Macbook, not too snug, just very secure.  The hardness of the “book” gives some protection, too.  Not tons, but perfect for throwing inside of a tote or larger purse.

Dessert: Raw Vegan Almond Butter Cookies

In honor of my Nut Butter Give Away, try these.  They are easy and fast, and you can make them with any kind of nut butter you have on hand if AB isn’t your thing.  Although for most bloggers, AB seems to be your thing.  No baking, no hassles, just a quick whiz in the food processor or Vita and you’re done.
Raw Vegan Almond Butter Cookies

1. Best Thing You’ve Ate or Done on the Weekend so Far?
Me = Time with the family and a glorious cup of coffee on a dreary fall day.

2. Have you ever tried Soap Nuts or other more natural laundry detergents?  Verdicts?
When I used to cloth diaper Skylar, I used to have to be very careful about what types of detergents I used.  The wrong detergent will: give your baby a horrible rash, erode your diapers, not get your diapers clean enough, leave a buildup on your diapers.   Tons of issues can come up with the wrong detergent.  My fave detergents for diapers were Country Save or Allen’s Mountain Green.

I also used Bio-Kleen Bac-Out for stains and odor control.  Bio-Kleen Bac-Out is great for carpet stains, pet stains, odors in your clothes, it’s a lovely lime scent.  Highly recommend it!

If you are interested in either cloth diapering or using natural detergents in general, google those and check them out.

3. If you have a laptop, what kind of case do you have for it?  Do you like my “book” case?  I think it’s pretty clever and I’m digging it!  What kind of case do you have and do you like it?

4. Luggage is ungodly expensive and the airlines have a habit of beating the crap out of it and so even the most well-built luggage doesn’t last forever.

Online sites offer huge savings from retail stores, but luggage is the type of thing that I want to see it in person, feel it, open it and look inside, see how the zippers glide, how much they expand, how deep the pockets are, etc.  I don’t want to order and then have to deal with returning and shipping back such a huge and bulky item!

Stores like Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Ross, and the like do have great deals on luggage but it’s hit or miss.  And usually I don’t want a set of 3 suitcases like they typically sell things as sets, but of course, you can get lucky too.

Where do you buy your luggage?  And for all you young kiddos who haven’t had to purchase any yet, it’s ridiculously overpriced.  Along with window treatments (curtains, blinds, curtain rods), the simplest things can run a small fortune in a hurry!

Have a great Saturday everyone!

  1. hi! i know you posted this a long time ago, but i love the idea of buying the leather book case for a laptop. i myself have a 13inch white macbook and was wondering what size case you ordered? because they are actually made for a macbook pro, so i dont know whether i should still buy the 13 inch cover or go upto the 15?
