Naturally Sweet

Oh, how I love pineapple.  And whole pineapples were on sale for 49 cents a pound at the grocery store.  Meaning this lovely lady was under 2 bucks.

Juicy, sweet, fresh pineapple ranks right up there as one of life’s great simple pleasures.

Between Skylar and I, we polished off most of that container.  That would be nearly a whole pineapple that we split. At least we’re good to go on Vitamin C.

If you’ve never cleaned your own pineapple, I have a pineapple-cleaning tutorial.  It’s so easy to do and you’ll save so much money rather than buying pre-cut pineapple, which is always a little susceptible anyway.  Air + cut surfaces + bacteria = funky.

We also tried some Navitas Naturals Organic Raw White Mulberries

Navitas Naturals Organic Raw White Mulberries bagsThe mulberries were so tasty!  Never had mulberries? Well, they’re chewy and sweet, similar to how raisins would be, except a little more crunchy.

If you like dried fruit, you should try them and I still need to try the maqui powder.

I bet it would be good in a Purple Rain Smoothie

And I’ve used the Cacao Power lip balm in the past and it smells so good.

Cacao Power lip balmWearing chocolate (cacao) + cacao butter on your lips =  sort of dangerous.  But it’s sure fun.

And reminds me I need to eat something with chocolate + coconut oil in it like

Raw Vegan Chocolate Macaoons (you can make them in the oven, too)

The lip balm also reminds me to hit my freezer stash of chocolate + coconut in the form of No Bake Coconut & Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites

No Bake Coconut & Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough BitesFrom my last post, Bamboo & Lending a Helping Hand, sounds like some of you have been lucky enough to try a few bamboo items.  I love my new clothes.  They are so soft and comfy and yes, fold-over waistbands just make life so much better.  Especially after a half of a pineapple.

And I’m so glad that we can all remember to take a minute and help each other out, too.  I have been blessed to “meet” so  many wonderful people by way of blogging and I am reminded of this time and time again when good things happen!

Questions:

1. Have you ever tried mulberries?

I actually hadn’t until about six months ago and they’re not something I buy often because they are pricey, but they’re a great little splurge.

2. What have you been enjoying that’s naturally sweetened (or maybe just sweetened with a little bit of help)?

Pineapple, plums, nectarines, water melon, grapes….fruit in the summer is just delish for me.

And I’ll count these Raw Vegan Caramels filled with nut butter as naturally sweetened because they only contain 3 ingredients, and one of them is dates.

  1. I don’t think I’ve ever tried mulberries — I had a mulberry candle once but that is about it!

I love fruit — especially this time of year when MN actually has decent fruit that hasn’t been frozen and then thawed and all that. Yuck. Haven’t bought a pineapple in a long time though — I’m still stuck on eating tons of strawberries.

  3. I am a fruit freak this time of year! The strawberries are amazing and cantaloup is being eaten like crazy! Max and I ate an entire cantaloup yesterday and it was amazing! I’ve had mulberries in preserve form, but never the actual berry. I loved the preserves!

  4. Pineapples have been a staple around here lately. I’ve even found them for a dollar each!!! Also, we’re going back and forth between strawberries and blueberries too. So yummy!

I actually just bought a bag of mulberries to try recently and they are really good! Nice little treat, but I’m with you, they are kind of pricey to be splurging on all the time.

  5. OMG, keep forgetting ihace a pineapple cut up in the fridge! I hope it’s still good! I love fresh pineapple. Dustin and I will. Polish one off in a day, too.

    1. sometimes the best fruit, espi for smoothies, is the kind *about* to turn on you…b/c it’s so ripe and sweet.

cut and slice and get to work on that smoothie. and add rum. sounds like your day/week has been a doosie to beat all!!!! (((HUGS))))

  6. What a great deal on pineapple! I’m always really lazy and just buy the skinned and cored kind for $4. :P

  7. I have never tried mulberries and anytime I hear that word I immediately start singing “Pop goes the weasel”. There’s a mulberry bush in those lyrics right?

  8. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE pineapple! And you’re so right about buying the whole thing instead fo the overpriced already cut pieces!

Also, I wanted to make a comment on your banana avocado ice cream but the comments were closed.. This is the most AMAZING recipe, EVER? It’s so much fun to find vegan alternatives to dairy based foods, and the vegan ice cream out there (along with being overpriced) never quite lives up to the real thing. This though, omg!!!!!!!!!!!! You rock so hard for sharing this!!!

  9. Every dessert I enjoy is naturally sweet :D hehe…. But I had a HUGE owl of fresh, organic berries today-so fresh. so delicious.

Did you know you can grow the pineapple by just sticking the top in the ground? Weird, huh? I’m growing my own right now-we’ll see how it turns out!

  10. I made some copycat Larabars that are naturally sweet from the dates. They’re sooo good!

  11. I used to be ob. sessed. with pineapple! So addictive, too. Could never stop at just one bowl full :P
The white mulberries sound interesting! I bought a trail power mix from Navita’s Naturals once that was gojis, mulberries and goldenberries. I can’t remember if it was the goldenberries or the mulberries that I LOVED, though…

  12. A whole pineapple for under $2.00?! That’s a steal! They’re close to $4.00 here! But that never stops me from buying them, they’re my favorite fruit. :)

  13. Oh dear… no bake cookies?????? BOOKMARKED!
And yes – pineapple is amazing… snacking, desserts, with almost anything – love them!

  14. I’ve never tried mullberies actually. I am loving pineapple and strawberries lately. I need to make those date caramels again. Been too long.
