Aruba Bound
I just wrapped up an enormously big project, or wrapped up the bulk of it, and Monday night I am getting on a plane to go to my house in Aruba.
For the month of August.

Scott and I had discussed a trip, for approximately how long we’d stay, and he was like, Babe just do whatever you want.
Whatever I want? Okay.
Surprise, family, we’re going to Aruba for a month.

Since he and I can both work from anywhere with phones, an internet connection, computer, camera, and I need a few extra things like mixing bowls and some sugar, I figured what the heck and booked the trip.
Plus, this is the last month of summer vacation with our ‘baby’ who is starting first grade in September. Sniff. So we’re taking a long family vacation and Skylar’s been talking nonstop about it nonstop since I spilled the beans. She’s so excited to see our neighbors there, her teddy bears in her room there, and her friends there.

Yes, I will be blogging daily.
In fact, I may be churning out more recipes.
There is only so much equator sun anyone can handle before you have to step out of the sun, and into the kitchen.
The last time we were in Aruba…
I made everything from
White Chocolate Peanut, Pretzel, & Chocolate Chip Fudge

to Pineapple Banana & Coconut Cream Smoothies

to White Chocolate Vanilla Peanut Butter Puppy Chow

to Creamy Cookie Butter White Chocoalte Smoothies

There will be no shortage of smoothie-making and sweet and no-bake recipes coming.
For some reason I crave white chocolate when I’m there, so if you like white chocolate, you’ll probably be in luck.
This is our running and walking path.

We need it after said baking projects.

There will be no shortage of these types of pictures in the next month.
Flowers and palm trees.

I hope you can handle a month of it.

And tons of blue sky + blue water pictures.
They make me happy, relaxed, calm, tranquil, and I could stare at blue sky and water forever.
Aruba is my happy place.
It’s not called One Happy Island for nothing.

Do you have any vacations planned or have you done any trips or little getaways this summer?
Not only am I excited and grateful to be going to my happy place, but I am so excited to be able to spend ample time each day with my family without much on our agenda. I’ll let you know if I’m still cum-ba-yah’ing over all that family togetherness after being awake 36 hours on the redeye tonight. Wish me luck!
Thanks for the Capresso Espresso and Cappuccino Machine Giveaway entries

Oh, how wonderful! We’ve just had a short weekend getaway this year, but I’m in the process of changing jobs (with luck) and we don’t have much time to spend. I’ll be taking vacation vicariously through your pictures! Have a great time.

Ah, so excited for you guys! A whole month? That is amazing. I’m looking forward to your pics. :)
We’re hoping to get away for a week or so at the end of the summer for our anniversary, but haven’t booked anything yet. We are also last minute travelers it seems! Might go to BC as we’ve never been and they have lots of great hiking trails & photo ops.

I love your Aruba photos, Averie! Can’t wait for more! Wish I could pack up and leave on a month-long vacay! Oh well, I’ll live vicariously through you! Bring on the white chocolate, please!
Can’t wait to learn more about your big project!!! I know that a vacation is very well deserved. ;)

Oh my goodness! Hope you have a blast! Nothing big planned for the summer (bought a house, started new jobs, and wedding planning is enough for one’s plate), but just booked our honeymoon to Montego Bay, Jamaica! Soooo excited!

Hi Averie,
happy holidaying to you!!
This month, we’ll do some camping in Canada and in September, I’ll be off to the Cote d’Azure, Nice – yes, nice :-) – for freediving before visiting family in Vienna.
There’s a yoga teacher who’s very active on FB, you might want to check her out, seems to spend more time on her hands than feet and some of that on a surf board (SUP yoga,..) – great energy:

Hey there Averie. Have a wonderful time in Aruba. Your trips sounds like the perfect way to close up summer.
Were headed back near your old neck of the woods (MN) in about a week. It will be cousins galore for the kids (9 of them) and we’ll be spending plenty of time playing at the lakes and possibly make a few treks up to Woodhill for some swim time and dinner on the patio (I remember you told me you were a lifeguard there).
Xoxo,
Jackie

Woodhill. YES! Wow, blast from the past – have fun and email me if you post about it or have trip pics to share – it will be like old home week for me :)

Just WOW. I’m completely jealous. We honeymooned in Aruba and would love to go back but it’s gotten so expensive since we were last there. Genius to rent domestic and own abroad.

Averie @ Averie Cooks replied: — July 30th, 2012 at 2:15 pm
that is my exact logic – rent here, own there. It was a great (semi-lucky) decision that worked out well…wish all of my real estate endeavors did :) But yes, it’s so expensive there now compared to even 10 years ago!

Not jealous at ALL you’re head to ARUBA. AR.UB.A.
We’re headed to NC in a couple of weeks! Beach time. :)

we used to live in NC & SC – love it down there. GREAT BEACHES!

Totally jealous. It always looks absolutely beautiful in your pictures. I bet it looks even more amazing in person! I have absolutely no vacation plans for this year, which is a bummer. But staycations can be fun too!

What an amazing vacation! So jealous of a full month of beach vacation. Can’t wait to see the stunning pictures, and great white chocolate recipes!

Aaaaaaaand you know I’m officially jealous :-) We didn’t make it to the tropics this year for vacation. Nantucket is wonderful and beautiful…but there’s just something about the turquoise waters of the Carribbean that get to me!! Y’all are going to have a ball!

your trip looked great and that post you wrote – you just cannot compare a pre/post baby vacation – especially at lila’s age – you’ll get there again soon :)

Wow, just found your site. So jealous of your trip to Aruba. Safe travels

I’m leaving for Aruba on Friday the 3rd! We need to meet up! I will be there until Thursday the 9th. Even if we don’t meet up I hope you have a blast…although I really hope we do :)

You deserve every minute of this trip! I wish I were going to be there.
I’ve got a trip to Vancouver, BC in two weeks. Part work, part fun, so I can’t wait!! Not quite the tropics, but it is supposed to be the best time of year to go there. I’m looking forward to time out of the midwest.

And your trip sounds awesome! have heard GREAT things about vancouver but have never been – that is your kinda place!

Sounds like a plan, mama! You should mail yourself a package of cooking supplies; might be easier than bringing them on the plane.
I can’t wait for our next vacation. It’s badly needed!

Averie @ Averie Cooks replied: — July 30th, 2012 at 3:31 pm
lol and I agree – between the cost to ship there or the cost of overweight baggage or the cost of overpriced and understocked local island kitchen supplies – it’s practically a wash. But over the past 10 years, I’ve built up a decent stash…I have new measuring cups and a 8×8 and 9×9 pan in my suitcase this trip :)
Reply
Averie, what a great news! I am so happy for you! Yes, I can handle a whole month of palm trees, and sun, and treats, I can handle a whole year of it! And then more after that! :)
Have fun with family!
I baked something again (or dear, I can’t believe I am saying it!), and told my “sweet” story :)
We have no vacations this year, just business. My husband needs to find a job by end of this year so he can start working on his license. Then we have to get ready to move. Nothing exciting… :)

Just had a getaway to Vegas, and will be camping in August. I love summer holidays :-) I am hoping to go to Mexico in March for a wedding, but still need to see if I can get the days off. With teaching, it is next to impossible to do any trips that aren’t in the summer, over Christmas or Easter.

I am so excited to be going down there in the ‘off season’ – not xmas or easter/spring break for the reasons you mentioned!

Ah, Aruba. No vacations here or planned with the new baby. And I’d love to have one.
I think our next vacation will be over the school holiday at Christmas. Of all places, we will probably be driving down to San Diego – Legoland, Sea World…

Oh wow! Have fun, Averie!! That place looks so beautiful!
We took the boys to Disneyland for 3 days. Our youngest (who will be 14 in 2 weeks) had never been. It was a blast, although, extremely tiring!!
Last year we went to Hawaii, but even there, with two teenage boys, it was active! I could use some hardcore beach laying around! :-)

So glad to hear you’re getting away with your family for a month. Those will be precious memories for your daughter when she grows up.
We aren’t traveling anywhere this summer but my family has a cabin on a gorgeous lake with private sand beach 15 minutes from our house. So, I cannot complain whatsoever.
And I’m psyched about more no bake recipes. Those aren’t my favorite for eating. But, there’s a no bake cookie contest at the end of August at an annual country fair in our town, http://www.bluehillfair.com, so I’m going to try one of your recipes and enter to win!
