I spent part of Saturday morning playing in the kitchen.

I felt like such a kid in a candy store. Literally.

Though it wasn’t all sugar and green food dye #3. I ate some of this type of green and fluffy stuff, too.

I had a really nice day with my family and for part of the day, we were outside and took in the green trees and palm trees. It was a windy day, and although sunny, it was on the chilly side.

What did you do today?

When was the last time you made something with food coloring?

Prior to making the Snickerdoodle Cookie Bars with Pink Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting it had been awhile for me.

Easter is coming up and maybe we’ll decorate eggs this year and if we do, it won’t be the “natural” beet juice way. It will be the red dye #40 way.

  1. Today was spent writing, editing, and enjoying the sunshine. I honestly can’t remember the last time I cooked with food dye! maybe a few christmas’ ago when i made sugar cookies?!?! But I love decorating eggs for easter! Haven’t done that in a while, but you’ve inspire me

  2. Hehe, it was yesterday when I did something with food coloring: I added some red food coloring to my pink tulips (don’t like pink) to see if they change the color. They did a little. Check the photo on my blog. :)

  3. Looks like a fun project, can’t wait to see what you made! I used food coloring to make a few red velvet treats around Valentine’s Day.

    1. And I can’t wait to see what you’re going to make for the springtime holidays coming up :)

  4. i try not to use food coloring. or i find something i can work with at whole foods. they have some good all natural dyes there.

  5. Today I taught and took some Yoga.

Last time I cooked with food dye was very recently, when a friend taught me how to make French macarons. You ever had those? They’re delicious! We made our cherry flavored, and used gel food coloring to dye them accordingly ;-)

  6. Hmmm…..are you giving clues? The next holiday is St. Patrick’s, so maybe some kind of shamrockin’ treat???

  7. It’s been years since I used food coloring-last I recall I made a boyfriend a red velvet cake but used blue dye. I’d had to buy like four sets of food coloring to get enough red to make him his requested red velvet the year before. The smurf cake, we called it.
We broke up before I could use the other colors in the sets to make a green cake and a yellow cake.

  8. The last thing I made with food coloring was rainbow cupcakes. Yummers! You can’t go wrong with green food! :-)

  9. I don’t use food coloring unless I’m making red velvet cake… most of my green food is from spinach. :)

That zucchini pasta looks fantastic! I made one last week too. Don’t know why, but I always forget about it!

  10. I almost spralized a zucchini for lunch but instead I threw it in the vita mix to make honey mustard dressing (w/ nooch) to go on my kale. Lots of green in that salad! I was re-organizing my cupboard a few weeks ago and found some old (and mostly dried up) food coloring so it has probably been years since I’ve used it. The green marshmallow fluffy stuff you made reminds me of spring and looks good enough to eat by the spoonful!

  11. The last thing I made with food colouring was a big batch of valentine’s cookies for my students.
