How are you doing today?  Friday, at last!  I thought it would never come!
Today I went to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned.  I go to the dentist 3 times a year for cleanings.  I know that may sound a little excessive, but I like to keep my teeth scrupulously clean, and I’ve never had a cavity!  It was my first time going to this dentist because it’s my first dental visit here in Phoenix since moving from San Diego.  It was fine but not super friendly or even that thorough so may have to keep shopping around.  Has anyone ever moved to a new city and you find yourself either getting lost on simple trips to the post office because you don’t know where anything is?  Or feeling clueless when it comes to health care practictioners like new dentists and doctors?

Saturday morning I am going to do yoga, specifically the Primary Series, with my guru and teacher who’s supervising me with my 500 Hour Teacher Training that I had mentioned I embarked on!  I have been certified since 2001 at the 200 hour level, and have been teaching since 2001, but just as a personal mission, I wanted to reach for the highest level and that’s why I embarked on my 500 hour training program!

I’m glad the Raw Vegan Chocolate Peppermint Donut Holes sound good to you!  Thanks for all the great compliments and feedback!

And I pity the poor soul who doesn’t like peppermint because this week has been super minty on my blog…

But I think I’m done with Mint.  For now.

Today’s eats included a fresh batch of kale chips. (that’s the big batch of kale chips link, and then there’s a link to a smaller sized batch)

And then smelling the savory delights of cashews, red peppers, and nooch wafting though my house.  I finally got to remove the kale chips from the Magic Box and indulge.

Also found a few new products at the grocery store.
Pina Colada Gum.  Oh yeah baby!  Wonder if there’s any rum in it?  After my beloved Sangria Fresca is no more, the Pina Colada is an awesome findTastes just like I am drinking a bottle of Hawaiian Tropic, and I mean that in the best possible way!

Package of Orbit Pina Colada Gum

Mary’s Crackers in Black Pepper Flavor.  Normally I get the Originals, so this was a nice treat.  That’s not full of onion & garlic, two flavors I happily do without.

I also love to do without my Sun Dried Tomatoes coming to me in jar vat of oil or loaded up with sodium.

Two bags of Sun Dried Tomatoes

I was stoked to find these at a new grocery store I checked out.  No oil, only a trace of sodiumPerfect.

And this bar, we’ll do without these in the future.  A Think Thin Bar from TJ’s.  I was attracted to the 20g of protein and the Gluten-Free Status.

But the ingredient list is a mile long…

….and the taste.  Well, it’s dry, chalky, super fake, bland, and generally not so hot.

Never fear, there’s no shortage of bars around here.  And these bars are awesome!!!!!!!  I was Thrilled Beyond Belief to find a care package from Bora Bora Foods!

And a certified Vegan symbol.  Right next to the Gluten/Wheat-Free and the Organic Symbols.  Is that not cool, or what?!!  Thanks Bora Bora for the great stuff and the early field report is that the taste of the bars is awesome, two Tiki Torches Up!

So after all those kale chips, all that grocery shopping, and my lovely post office surprise, this green plate included: mustard greens, cukes, tomatoes, brock, and cauli.  Slathered with my Vegan Slaw Dressing.

And for dessert, medjool dates stuffed with dark chocolate chips and TJ’s sunflower seed butter which I pop in the freezer a half hour before spreading it.  Thickens it up perfectly.

And then a couple Raw Vegan Chocolate Peppermint Donut Holes.

Yoga today is Parsvottanasana (Intense Side Angle Stretch)
This is a very active pose.  As you are folded over your straight, strong front leg, make sure to keep your quads engaged, and your back leg strong and engaged, too.  Chin to shin.  Drop your neck.  No tension in the head, neck, and shoulders.  Looks like you’re just flopped over, but there’s alot more going on.  Enjoy the deep stretch!

  1. You could make the hot cocoa and add it to coffee for a chocolatey coffee drink! Yum.

Is it possible to use cacao instead of cocoa? I'm new at this cacao stuff…probably right, just use more sugar/sweetener?

  3. most recent favorite use of vanilla stevia drops would have to be mixed into plain nonfat Greek yogurt with some cashew butter and banana. Heavenly!

  4. I want to win Vanilla stevia to use it everywhere: in my protein baked goods, hot cocoa, oatmeal…

  5. Hmm.. so many things are good with vanilla — I'm wondering how it would taste in alternative or COMBINED with vanilla extract! I think I would try to make some fancy dessert like vanilla creme brulee? Mmm!

  6. If i win stevia i would definately put the vanilla flavor in my coffee, tea, maybe use some in some baking like cookies or brownies?!

  7. How would I use vanilla stevia? Mmmm. Let's count the ways…. no, nevermind, I'd be here for days. In my smoothies, in my chia puddings, in my superfood fudge, in my tea (hot and iced), in my buckwheat/coconut/sesame seed/pear/vanilla granola recipe, in the whipped cream recipe I want to try… the list goes on…

  8. I practice blogging :-) hee hee!

Rain? Depends on who I'm with. If I'm alone or in So Cal, I would rather poke my eyes out with daggers than step my princess foot outside. If we are in the UK with our out-doorsy friends, we are GOING OUT rain, shine, sleet, snow. A little drizzle would be considered a fabulous day out! :-)

  9. Gahhh it was cold here too! AZ and its weird windy days. Blech. I didn't want to leave the house at all. (Yesterday I did manage to get out for a couple hours, to blog with free wifi+coffee though, gotta love that.) Hehe.

So happy you finally got your yoga groove, and everything is falling into place in Phoenix. That makes me a happy gal, for you. Headstand for three minutes?!! Geeze, I am proud of myself if I manage 30 secs, and thats with the legs bent. I'm getting there.

I love your new yoga duds! And your tattoo. So cool. Me= not a fan of the large cliffs either. Cliff Kid? Ok, once in a while, (when in an emergency strikes) but yeah not my fave.

  10. I really love this cocoa recipe, Averie. The other day at work peeps were making that swiss miss junk with fake marshmallows and I thought man I really want some "good" hot chocolate!

Can you believe Ive never had a cliff bar? I like the kids ones (Z bars or whatever) but the regular ones never jumped out at me.. thanks for the review!

  11. I am making that coco tonight no doubt about it! you know i have all this chocolate goodness that needs to be eaten so THANK YOU FOR THE RECIPE, AVERIE!!

the tye dye is awesome! I love making tye dye I used to do it at camp all teh time, we did everything from our underwear to pillow cases!

and althought I lOVE working out with weights and the rush of weight training or spin i KNOW that yoga is a Killer workout, sometimes way to hard for me!!

I mean, look at your hot bod, I think its quite a workout and keeps you in stellar shape!

  12. oooh, that hot chocolate looks good. i wonder if you could do a peppermint hot chocolate by using cocoa powder and peppermint extract. or maybe peppermint tea and hot cocoa… like a tea latte? i wonder…

looks delicious! thanks for the link to your granola post

  13. Gosh we have a lot in common! I grew up in MN as well. Where did you live?

I used to be able to tolerate the cold, but after 13 summers where it is 100+ for 4 months, I cannot exercise outside when it is cold or rainy.

I'm going to try a Hot Yoga class this afternoon, because it sounds toasty. ;-)

  14. omg, i made the EXACT cocoa drink last night. literally. exact. haha.

(it was basically the nonmilk version of the recipe on my cocoa tin)

  15. Ahhh! Your cookie dough balls are soo incredibly tempting! I may have to try to recreate them when I get home!

I also need to recreate that Tahini Ceaser dressing! It looks divine upon that colorful salad! :D

  16. yoga for h1n1? i'll take it anyday ;)

i'm sad that the cliff bar had a not so oomfy pumpkin flavor! all they would have to do is drop a can of libbys into the machine haha

    love. those. pants.

  17. I'm very new to yoga and I really like your daily poses. But I don't have access to a real yoga class here in belgium and I think the yoga download classes go way to fast. I was wondering whether you could post a routine someday, with a number of exercises to do consecutively. I'm esp. interested in yoga exercises that are hip opening. I'm a runner and I have troubles with unbalanced hips.
    Thanks a lot!

  18. I must try your salad dressings – Your salads always look so creamy and yummy! Mine have been very plain lately with just lemon juice on them….sigh….

You got me inspired on yoga again! I am setting up a yoga plan for myself! WOO HOO!!

The daily detox drops are amazing -The wonderful thing is, I tried all of these products from a friend here, and I met with the formulator of the products – he was one of the formulators for Vega! Anywhooo I fell in love and I signed up so now I am a distributor for these wonderful prods!! I am so happy! These products are 100% natural and all Plant Based. look at me learn my stuff ;)

    Have a great night Doll!!

  19. it is so so cold here too! :(

Those pants. are the best. ever.
    i love them!!

    this recipe looks awesome!!
i bought some NUTS today to make the gingerbread cookie dough balls! Hurrah!

  20. Your gingerbread balls look amazing! Love the 4 variations on the recipe. I'll try the dehydrator cookie version and report back to you after all my little cookie monsters gobble them up :)

Your salad is crisp and gorgeous! How'd you get your cucumbers to look like that? The edges are rippled and so fancy. I want fancy cucumbers too :)

Love the way you pack for your trip…making sure you've got all your favorite foods. Bound to be a good trip with all that goodness packed along :)

Your tattoo is awesome and your new yoga pants are groovy. You are such a cool yogini :)

    Happy packing, travel safe xox

  21. Love your workout outfit! :) isn't shopping fun! Working out in the rain is tough… we sometimes do it depending on how bad it is raining. Otherwise we stay in and do workout in house or drive up to the gym.

  22. I make the SAME hot chocolate. Minus the vanilla. But now I will have to try making it with vanilla. I've had 3 cups already today :)

  23. I have been eying those Clif bars so I'm glad you assured me that they weren't worth going out of my Raw box for : )

Okay, I could totally go for a cup of cocoa and some of those gingerbread cookies right now! I must go make them but I will have to wait until tomorrow to eat them it's a little late for a sugar rush ; )

Is yoga a workout? What kind of crazy person asked that? I suppose the kind that doing sissy yoga, lol! I am going to do Bryan Kest's Power Yoga again this week because it made me so nice and sore last week, nice!

I absolutely do NOT workout IN the rain! I actually avoid working out outside anyway. I have become a closet exerciser. Well, my living room is the size of a closet so you get the picture ; ) My BFF runs in the rain, snow, 9 months prego, you name it. She's crazy like that : )

LOVE the card, thank you! You are SO fast!! Hugs sweet lady…..

  24. I LOOOOOOOVE your sweet new yoga clothes…oh So comfy!!!!!!

    bad weather….the treadmill…good weather…the treadmill..ha jk

my biggest issues was consistency and weather was always getting in my way…so treadmill it is. I do need fresh air though too so it isn't a perfect solution.

love that you talked about the different yoga practices.

  25. I like to exercise outdoors. Running in the rain is so liberating! Well, unless it's a torrential downpour than not really lol. I like to practice mindfulness, finding balance, and non-judgment towards things :) I hope all is well, beautiful!

p.s. Those gingerbread donut holes look so incredibly good!

  26. Ooo love that OM tree shirt. Did I mention that when I do my teacher's training they give us a uniform to wear? So I won't have to worry about picking out exercise clothes YAY (and less to pack too).

BTW I used to have a teacher who made us hold the poses for a minute also (holding bow for a minute – yikes!)

  27. I'm taking yoga next semester! SO excited…But I hope it won't be too strenuous…I still lack a lot of muscles.

Hot yoga…send it my way, please! I am freezing my ass here, esp since my room lacks central heat….I can't feel my butt!

  28. Girl, you are awesome with these poses! One day…:)

Those gingerbread balls look SO good! I just made some sunflower seed/chocolate/date balls yesterday and I'm always excited as to how easy, cheap and delicious they are. And raw!!

  29. Haha, you crack me up with the H1N1. The only good thing about getting Skylar involved with more kids is that it builds up her immune system from exposing her to all those icky germs. By the time she's my age, there won't be many colds she hasn't caught yet. ;)

I LOVED your reviews on the Clif bars. Seriously, you described EXACTLY how I feel about them. Yes, they're okay, but they are definitely missing that special something. Plus, they are the BEST nutrition wise. Normally, I skip buying them in the store.

Amazing hot cocoa recipe Averie. Healthy and induldgent!

  30. Great reviews! I've heard so-so things about the Cranberry Clif so I think I'll pass (even though I can't find it to begin with ;) )!

That vanilla hot cocoa sounds crazy delicious!! I need to add that to my list of things to try when school is done!

  31. Mmm, I love hot cocoa! I make my own version with unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze and a little agave to sweeten it. So good!

About working out in bad weather, I'm usually not brave enough! It doesn't really get cold here, but it rains a lot, which always gives me an excuse to do an indoor workout.

  32. Yikes! I'm lucky if I hold a headstand for 3 seconds, let alone 3 minutes — more power to ya, girlfriend!!

I love your tat and tye die… you are such a zen goddess :)

I made a super similer hot chocolate recipe today but used almond milk — hot damn, I was 2 seconds from bathing in it.

    Love you beautiful!!

  33. Your blog is great… I love it.. and I've been a lurker (it's true)
I am going to try out that dressing at some point… it looks yummy!!

Thanks for visiting my blog too!! :)

  34. Love the perks of teaching group fitness! I wish they had hot yoga at the clubs I teach at. It is SO amazing. And your workout this am? Kick butt! Yummy cocoa. Thanks again for all the TJs suggestions! Totally looking for the maple syrup once I finally get back to TJs!

  35. I love that "Do You Practice" shirt!!! And the hippy pants. I may or may not own a little tie dye myself ;)

One thing I love about your bar reviews, is that you take good pictures of the bars themselves. Most people only take shots of the package, but I want to see what it looks like, ya know?

I'm a total outdoor wuss. But, I kinda LIKE the gym. I even like the treadmill! I think it's because I enjoy the people watching I can do at the gym :) (and the climate control ain't bad either)

  36. I'm one of those crazy runners who is out in the rain and snow. I'm in WI and we got a bunch of snow last night (and up to 12 inches expected for the next 2 days!!!) and ran in it this morning. I felt like a little kid – huge smile plastered on my face as I ran – because it was just so much fun! The weirdo in me also likes the challenge of dressing for the cold without being over-dressed :)

  37. I love putting vanilla in my hot chocolate! Such a great add in! I would have been out there in the rain today if it weren't for this back dealy. I DID get in to see the doc today and I am feeling about a million times better! I love running in the rain (I've wiped out a few too many times on my bike in the rain to use the word "love" with that one). Of course, it helps that I've invested in water proof pants, running jacket that doesn't feel like wearing a trashbag, and shoes…

  38. Those DO scream flower child earth goddess! Hahah and they do look like the comfiest things ever!! I'm also a sucker for tye die :) LOVE THEM.

  39. great post girl!! i was drooling the whole time! i love your tats-and tye die!! I almost bough tye die pjs pants today actually! they didnt have my size tho. i loved what you said about yoga at the bottom :) working out in the rain-nahh! im a sissy!

  40. "I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it."
Haha, that is definitely my view on packing for just about anything. Sea salt? Yeah I don't trust anywere possibly to carry that :-P

That recipe looks quick and delicious. I might need some hot cocoa tonight when I get back from hearing christmas carols
