Highlights of the Week

Happy Sunday to all my friends!  How’s the weekend been so far?  Hopefully you’re chillin’ like a villain and keeping things low-key, mellow, and you’re getting some R & R time in.  My visit yesterday with my sister that I had mentioned previously was nothing short of awesome!  It’s sad that she’s in Chicago and I’m in Arizona so our time together is really infrequent but hopefully we can work on that.

Here’s a pic of us

And here’s us trying to reign Skylar in while we captured the happy moment

As for the Kale Chip Recipe I posted….yay, so glad you’re liking the looks of them!  Report back and tell me if you make ‘em. They are really crunchy and super flavorful from the nooch and the red pepper.  My very non-vegan and non-raw sis and bro-in-law were really impressed!  Try ‘em!

Oh and for anyone who’s wondering if you can do these without a dehydrator…I would give a cautious yes on that one.  As low as your oven goes, and watch them like a hawk.  The smell of burnt kale is quite disgusting so you don’t wanna do that, and I would maybe flip them over and check on them frequently, but give ‘er a whirl and fill me in!

I know I post alot of recipes and in the spirit of consolidating the past week’s eats, I thought I would continue my Sunday Recaps.  If you missed either of my past two recaps, which were really dessert heavy, you can check This One or That One out.

Let’s get started….

Raw Vegan Donut Holes5 Minute Recipe

Raw Vegan Chocolate Donut Holes5 Minute Recipe

Raw Vegan Apple Crumble

Vegan Chocolate Macaroons

Kale Chips

Things today were brought to you in VeganMofo spirit.

In other matters, I must be the Give Away winnin’ queen because remember yesterday’s post about me winning Naomi’s Give Away?  Well, I did it again because I won Sherri’s Give Away!  I almost didn’t enter Miss Green & Crunchy’s Give Away because she had hundreds of entries.  But, so glad I did because Glass Dharma hooked me up with a $30 gift certificate!

I chose 1 straight glass straw with chic black glass beads

And 2 bendy straws and a cleaning brush.  I already own 1 other Glass Dharma Straw so now I have 4 in my collection and I love them.  Thank you to both Glass Dharma & Sherri!!!!

I was also lucky enough to get my hands on a few new-to-me raw food products from Macro Life Naturals.  First some raw food bars.  You know I love all things chocolate and the fact that this is raw, organic, and chocolate, and really tasty, too?  These are a big hit with me!

Nutritional Stats on the Chocolate Raw Bar

And I also tried some Macro Life Naturals Macro Greens & Miracle Reds Supplements

Facts about the Greens

  • Boost energy & metabolism
  • Strengthen immune system
  • Detox and cleanse gently
  • Promote wellness
  • Improve digestion
  • Calm down food cravings
  • Lose or maintain weight naturally

  Facts about the Reds

  • Anti-aging
  • Super Antioxidants
  • Maintains Healthy Cholesterol Levels
  • Promotes Cardiovascular Health
  • Boosts Energy
  • Packed with raw food power
  • Bursting with Berry Taste !

I’ve been enjoying the boost to my body and overall wellness with these handy little Macro Life Naturals raw food finds!

Yoga today is Pincha Mayurasana (Feathered Peacock Pose).  I think this is my all-time favorite pose because it feels great when I balance my body on my forearms.  The slight curve my spine makes when I am balanced feels awesome in my lower back.  Plus, I get the rush and clarity that inversions are known for.

Tip of the Day:  If people are being lame in your life, move on.  I have spent years trying to “fit in” and conform to what others would probably like to see me do or have me be, but whenever I try too hard to fit the standards and ideals of others, I find myself antsy, anxious, and unhappy.  So rather than continue to try mold myself into what they would like me to be, I just don’t continue hanging out with them anymore.  Life is too short to have to fake it!  Surround yourself with people (or things or hobbies) that make you feel happy and warm-n-fuzzy inside!

And check out this Give Away the Happy Herbivore has!

So tell me if there’s been a “friend” or acquaintance that you decided just wasn’t really that worth it and you just moved on?  How did it come to be?  Not returning a phone call or two and the distance just naturally happened or did you actually tell the lame person, ya know this ain’t working for me.  I know we’ve all had so many of these “friendships” where you give wayyyyy more than you get.  For me, I just let time and space take care of it because I am very non-confrontational that way but tell me about yours!

Stay tuned for a vegan, gluten & soy-free banana bread cake recipe that’s bangin’…

I like your blog Averie because I feel like I get a sense of who you are from it… and generally those are the blogs I like – the honest ones! I like tips, and recipes, and chitter chatter, and photos, and nonsense, I like it all as long as it's honest and real :)

Honestly, I enjoy whatever you write, Averie!

I love your recipes and photos, but I adore your enthusiasm for life, health, yoga, your family, and all that good stuff. :-)

You're always inspiring – whether it's encouragement for yoga poses or whatever, it's nice to learn new things and be uplifted here.

I always feel welcome and I never, ever leave without learning something fantabulous!!

You're one of the blogs I can't live without reading every day!!

    Hugs,
    Michele

I like that each blog is different. Yours especially. Although I am notorious for being nosy about daily eats. I'm alwaysss curious to how people eat/how much etc. But your blog is a different pace, and I like it!

Yay for raw veggies, can't get enough of them. (BTW- made your kale chips last night (sans the magic box, I did em in a 200 degree oven or so), my parents and I gobbled them up.) :)

Ooh, I think I just might give those muffins a try since I have all the ingredients on hand, except for the cashews. I'll see if they turn out well with walnuts instead since I have some of those around at the moment!

I LOVE how you use nuts instead of tons of flour. Makes them so much healthier and gooey in the center. On my to-make list for sure!

The muffins look yummy, but did you realize you could probably make them raw if you changed up the ratio of ingredients? You should try it and post your results.

We have a busy weekend scheduled. I'm showing off Hayden to my mom's knitting group tonight, as well as hitting up the local pumpkin patch. Tomorrow, we're going to a baby shower, and we'll be celebrating my brother-in-law's b-day on Sunday.

I love your blog. I think you do a great job. We get lots of pics, recipes, yoga poses, everything! And to be honest, if there's a recipe I know I won't like, can't eat (anything with nuts), etc, I'll just skip over it. I say if you have a recipe, post it. Otherwise we'll all drive you crazy requesting it!

You're obviously doing a great job-just look at all the comments! Keep up the good work!

When it comes to blogs- I like when people really let their personalities shine through.. You always have fun things to say, and it likes talking to a friend in a way. I like getting to know people and about people.. what they eat and make… I don't care if there is always a recipe, or photos- but in general I like a bit of it all.. Your blog is great- really one of my favorites!!! I don't think you need to change a darn thing!

I love your blog just as it is now. I like reading quick and easy recipes that I can try out at home. Loving the yoga too. Camel is one of my fav asanas, and I love that you added a bit about becoming more open (which this pose is great for).

So much great info in your blog. Thanks girl!

Wow!! Those muffins looks so gooey and delicious! I love "doughy" bread products and those look like they fit the bill. YUM!

Thanks for the avo tip! I would have never guessed that the riper they are, the sweeter they are. I don't think I can OD on veggies either – love them way too much!

Can't wait for the cake – I think Scott had ulterior motives for buying those super ripe 'naners ;)

I like different blogs for different reasons. Some I read to get food ideas, others I read for reviews, and others I read for the humor. That's what's great about the blogs is that no two are the same!

I look at several blogs so i definitely don't have a favorite style of food blog format. Things i DO like – vegan and/or raw recipes that are kid friendly b/c i'm really trying to make sure my 17 month old gets a 50% raw diet w/ the other 50% being healthy cooked vegan foods… i work full time so the quick/easy part is so important to me! so i'd like to hear more about what your little girl eats/doesn't eat, how her meals go, etc. I love that sorta thing;)

and yes, i'm also nosey and like seeing the pictures of what you ate that day, cooked up, stirred up, screwed up, and even just reading about it too. Product reviews are nice too but not a huge interested for me.

Lastly – and then i'll shutup – i love long posts because I love all the stuff you cram in there! awesomeness:) and i'm a talker and can go on and on about anything, much less stuff i love haha so i can relate! even more so though, i love blogs that post frequently, and i tend to check those daily. if someone posts randomly, i'm not as tuned in.

thats all for now – ha:) have a great weekend!!

You just gave my last two freckled bananas a purpose in life! Organic bananas always throw me off. They never turn yellow, so I don't know they're ripe until they're past their prime. Friday night? Hot muffin action? Yes, please!

I don't think your posts are too long – you add a lot of pictures and it's not as if you are rambling – unlike some people I know *cough* ME *cough*. I agree with everyone else – this is your blog and you should write however you choose to write. I LOVE that you keep it real.
