Dark Chocolate

I’ve never met chocolate I didn’t like.  I mean, it’s chocolate.  How bad can it be?

But I definitely prefer dark chocolate over any other type

I was thrilled to received this Ghirardellli Intense Dark Chocolate in conjunction with being a FoodBuzz Featured Publisher

Multiple bars and packages of Ghirardelli Dark Chocolates

The darker the better

72%, 86%

Bring it.  I can handle it.

Some people saw that dark chocolate is bitter.  I would say that it lacks overt sweetness (and boy, do I have a sweettooth) but I wouldn’t call dark chocolate bitter, per se.

It’s just not sweet.  But it’s dark, smooth, rich, and just melts in your mouth.

The Ghirardelli was perfect.  I liked both the 72% and the 86%.  The 86% being less sweet than the 72% but both were smooth and made me want to open a bottle of red wine and blow off the rest of the day and lovely.

I am not a fan of salt in any way, shape, or form, so I gifted the sea salt soiree chocolate bars to Scott and Skylar who happily took them off my hands.

She was excited about it!

Thanks, GhirarhelliThis was a rough assignment but somebody had to do it.

I know you could use the Ghirardelli bars in recipes in place of chocolate chips (but I’d prefer to just eat them plain and savor them on their own)

If you want to make something dark & chocolatey, may I suggest

Raw Vegan Chocolate Chocolate-Chip Cookies (GF, you can bake them in the oven, dehydrate them, or just eat the raw cookie dough)

Raw Vegan Chocolate Chocolate-Chip Cookies

Dark Chocolate Coconut Snowballs (vegan, GF, no-bake, freezer friendly)

Coconut oil, coconut flakes, maple syrup, and dark cocoa powder may not look pretty but I can assure you it tastes pretty

Fudgy Nutella Brownies with Cream Cheese Frosting

Fudgy Nutella Brownies with Cream Cheese FrostingThe richest, best brownie recipe I’ve ever made.  And I am really picky about brownies.

I know white chocolate isn’t “really” chocolate, but it is to me

Questions:

What kind of chocolate do you like?  Dark?  How dark? Milk? White?

I love dark chocolate and yes, I like it very dark.  It’s not bitter to me.  It’s just not sweet.

I am not a fan of milk.  At all.  I would eat it on a desert island but I wouldn’t go in search of it otherwise.

White is not “real” chocolate, I realize, but I love it regardless.  The uber sweet quality will always give it a place in my heart.  These bars are possibly my fave dessert in recent memory.

I don’t like flavored chocolate other than possibly mint-flavored

But fruit-flavored, i.e. raspberry truffles or orange-infused bars of chocolate, is a 100% no-way for me!  Just cluttering up the beauty.

I don’t like nuts in chocolate as a general rule

I do like the combos of:

peanut butter + chocolate (such as Nutella & Peanut Butter Graham Bars with Chocolate Frosting – No Bake)

caramel + chocolate (such as homemade vegan, GF Chocolate “Turtles” – No Bake)

marshmallow + chocolate (such as Deep Dish Double Chocolate Golden Grahams Smores Bars – Vegan & GF options)

Ahhhh, so many ways to enjoy chocolate, so little time.

How do you like your chocolate?

  1. Man, you are treated like a queen writing this blog! Hand delivered chocolate?! I used to really LOVE chocolate, especially raw chocolate. I find the raw stuff has a much wider range of flavors, it is always more dynamic that roasted. On the days when I make desserts for My love and My Baby Sister, there is always a chocolate something! Also, Skylar is so cute I could die.

  2. The darker the better! I have 85% cocoa chocolate from Lindt that I have a square of every day – or, at least, most days. It’s so delish – and it’s exactly the melt-in-the-mouth sensation that makes it so good. I can’t stand dark chocolate that is actually sweet (50% or so) – I’d rather just go with milk. The Ghirardelli is super good though, I’ve had that before. It’s always in my Christmas stocking!

  3. Oh my goodness, the darker the better! I agree, not bitter just deliciously smooth. I would have gladly taken the sea salt one off your hands! As much as salt hates me, salt and chocolate is one of my favorite combos.

  4. The darker the better. I’ve worked up to 99%, which is amazing considering I used to be a die hard white & milk chocolate only fan. The great thing about the 99% chocolate: it lasts longer because I only need a small amount. Hurrah!

PB + Chocolate = heaven in my mouth :)

  5. I wish I could say that I liked dark chocolate. I know it’s so wonderful for you and blah blah blah, but it’s just so gross to me. Now white chocolate, whether or not it is “chocolate” is DELICIOUS. I can eat white chocolate like it’s going out of style. In fact one of my favorite candy bars was Hershey’s cookies & cream because it was mostly white chocolate! Too bad it’s not gluten-free and I can no longer eat it!

    I say, white chocolate FTW!

    1. I agree with your flavor combos (pb and choc, caramel and choc, marsh and choc, yes!) and definitely no fruit-flavored chocolate or chocolate filled with nuts. I totally need chocolate now… ;)

  6. ooo girl I love me my chocolate darker than dark! I eat 88% endangered species chocolate and swoon everyday!!

I have had sea salt chocolate once and loved it!!! MMMMMM

    xxxoo

  7. I am actually not a huge chocolate fan…unless its in a cake or other dessert form. I do love milk chocolate the most though! That sea salt chocolate looks amazing and so do your fudgey brownies with cream cheese frosting! yowza!

  8. I like my chocolate DARK and MELTED. with slices of fruit and cookies to dip in it :D

I also like semi-sweet chocolate chips on their own and Dove brand chocolate because it has a taste that is less “waxy” than your traditional Hershey’s bar.

  9. I just got notified about getting this too, I can’t wait for it to arrive! I’m really excited about the sea salt one.

  10. The only chocolate I grew up with was an occasional Crunch Bar or Hersheys. That being said, I was NOT a fan of chocolate! It wasn’t until I went to college that my roommie introduced me to dark chocolate in the best way: FONDUE!!! Now I eat dark and milk eagerly, and I love salt so sea salt truffles are my favorite!

  11. poor you for having to sample those chocolates ;)
I am actually not a big fan of eating pure chocolate (even as a child I hated it and would give all the chocolate to my brother, who would happily devore each bite), but I love dark chocolate in baking. Oh, wait, I do have an exception: I love a good riesling with a piece of dark chocolate with sea salt. Sooooo good!

  12. Oh god I love chocolate. My favorite is white chocolate but I’ll take dark, milk, anything.

I’m with you on not liking the raspberry or other fruit flavored chocolate — I remember trying those chocolate oranges a few years ago and thinking they were the grossest thing ever. I love fruit and I love chocolate but they don’t really go together in my mind.

  13. green and blacks 85%. mmmm. also trader joes chocolate 72% and above… i love dark chocolate! i went to belgium in 2006 and i was in chocolate heaven :)
