Being in the warm weather in Aruba is the perfect opportunity to drink up.
I didn’t add rum to this, but you could.
Rum makes life more interesting.
But even without the rum, just blend this up and pretend you’re on vacation.

Taste of the Tropics Smoothie
1 medium banana (previously frozen is ideal but not essential)
1/3 c pineapple (I used canned, crushed pineapple but fresh would be great)
1/4 c yogurt (I used peach passion fruit)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (or almond extract)
1/4 c milk (nut milk, vanilla flavored nut milk, milk, cream, or peach mango milk <– I used that)
1/3 c additional fruit (optional, such strawberries, mango, peaches, plums, nectarines, papaya, honeydew, cantaloupe, etc.)
1 ounce rum (optional, such as dark rum, light rum, Malibu)
1 tbsp chia seeds (optional)
1 scoop protein powder (optional)
sweetener to taste (optional, such as honey, agave, sugar, stevia, vanilla NuNaturals stevia drops)
6 ice cubes (use your judgment)
Blend everything in Vita-Mix, Magic Bullet, or blender until smooth.
Yields: one hearty portions or double the recipe, pour into plastic glasses and freeze, and pull out of the freezer as needed over the next few days to save time.
For Vegan Options: Use Coconut Milk or Nut Milk of your choice, or simply use water. For the yogurt, use soy or coconut based yogurt, or omit.

Add everything to the Magic Bullet. I left the Vita at home.
Cream infused with Peach + Mango. Hello heaven. Omg.
Stuff everything in & blend
And then go out to the pool and enjoy! Or drink at your desk in the middle of the day and use your imagination.
By the time I got done shooting the photos for this post, I was dripping in sweat.
I really did shoot at the pool.
And it was 3:30pm, 90F degrees and humid, and I was laying on the concrete of the pool deck to “get the shot” .
I really am a food blogger!
It was definitely time to inhale this smoothie. I wanted to drink them both, so badly, while I was photographing them! I exercised Big Time Restraint.
I made my way inside and made a second batch of smoothies and shared them with Scott and Skylar.
It was kid and husband tested, and they both approved. And asked for seconds. Tomorrow family, tomorrow.
Sweet, tropical, creamy. Perfect.
From my last post on the Full Moon & Beach Pictures, thanks for sharing if you feel the full moon has effected you the past few days, or in general if you feel full moon effects.
And I’m glad you enjoyed the Aruba beach pictures!
Questions:
1. What’s your favorite smoothie combination?
Other recent smoothies of mine include:
Vanilla Avocado Banana Smoothie in a Bowl
And my Purple Rain Smoothie
Featured by Women’s Health Magazine
For me, a smoothie has to be sweet and creamy. I eat plenty of vegetables, I don’t have an urge to put kale and chard in my smoothies. That’s what salads are for.
Smoothies, for me, are basically dessert in a cup. Or bowl.
2. Are you a smoothie person?
In general, as I mentioned, I’m not.
They don’t really sustain me and I usually finish them feeling strangely full, i.e. bloated with liquid, yet unsatisfied. And within an hour or two, I am on the food prowl, again.
However, being in the warm weather here in Aruba, they are perfect!
P.S. Thanks for the entries for the $50 Ecolissa giveaway. Keep them coming!
Enjoy your day! I’m off to the beach.
Well, I guess that I may be weird, but I love a green smoothie for breakfast in the morning, a very large on, and it sure is good. I freeze my bananas and greens then put them into my blender w/rice milk, and blend, add some supplement and a bit of protein enough to give it a little extra zest, and I have two large glasses of the drink. Many times I drink that whole thing, but sometimes I put the rest in fridge for later.
That milk is a little on the elderly side! Did it expire November 8th or August 11? :P Either way, that smoothie looks fantastic. It might be just what I need to pull myself out of this beginning-of- winter funk.
This post is from when we were here this past summer. And they do their dates: date/month/year for the most part here.
Oh my gosh, now I feel pretty dumb… and I was wondering why it wasn’t showing up on your homepage! I’m sorry about that. I guess finals week stress is getting to me.
I was sort of wondering about your comment.
Good luck with your stress.
This would be a great one to veganize, and in the midst of this stressful week, I think it’s just what I need! Wonderful and enticing recipe. I’m just getting better about eating more fruit variety (still a work in progress, but better!) and wouldn’t I like to use this recipe as a starting point…
Super easy to veganize, just soy or coconut yogurt and a splash of almond milk…and really neither of those things are “essential” they just give extra creaminess and a bit of sweetness for added flavor.
Oh and the other comment you left about meeting Marla at the Dole summit…YES I know you met b/c I saw on her blog and yours, the pics from it, back then. I was super jealz…would have loved to have been there too :)
GREAT REVIEW! I pretty much agree with all your thoughts you said in your article, especially at the beggining of your article. Thank you, this info is very useful as always. Keep up the good work! You’ve got +1 more reader of your web blog:) Isabella S.
hmmm now you are giving me ideas for spiked smoothies! ;)
I like smoothies – but would only have one for breakfast … never for another meal.
Hi
I love smoothies and juices, help me to lose weith.
And cleaned my face.
I love that you were laying on the concrete getting these shots! How perfect.
Perfect timing on this one. Pineapples were on sale 2 for $5 so I stocked up. I know what my morning smoothie will be :) Not a big fan of yogurt in smoothies though, so I’ll skip that part.
Love your commitment to getting “the shot”. The ones you posted turned out great and I make me feel like I’m poolside.
Definitely a smoothie person. During paintball season they are the easiest and fastest thing for me to make & bring to the paintball field on weekends. I can sip them as I go, and are so cool and refreshing on hot days (still waiting for the hot days to happen here though).
Green smoothies are my go to for breakfasts. I blend it up, pour it in a mason jar and take it to work.
Yum, the smoothie looks great. Wish it was warm here now, been rainy and cold. Later this week!
1. Tropical fruits and vanilla are great smoothie flavor combos for me.
2. Yes and especially this week. :-)
I’ve yet to make my own smoothie, but I really want to try something with strawberry in it. I love strawberries in the summer :) Especially tart ones!
I really love smoothies! I’ll usually add a banana, frozen berries, ground flax seed, milk, maybe plain yogurt. There are so many combos! I am so jealous of you relaxing in Aruba!! Have a terrific time :)
This looks so tasty. I love having pina coladas :)
I make a apple and banana smoothie for my kids every morning- they are great- yours look a lot better than mine. There is a new trend to add a little fresh coffee into them.
My latest smoothie had frozen dark cherries, slivered almonds, almond milk, and vanilla protein powder, all blended in the bullet. Cherry almond smoothie! I like to add spinach to some of my smoothies, not necessarily because I need more veggies, but because I love the green color! I love your photos!!
That looks so good! And my favorite part? It’s NOT green! haha I’ve seen so. many. freakin’. green monsters I don’t think I want to drink one anytime soon, lol. Yours is still healthy and loaded with nutrients; not every smoothie has to be GREEN! :)
So jelly! I want to be poolside, but I can live without the humidity! I hate humidity. I’d rather be in -16F weather than 85+ with 100% humidity, lol. I would have kept dipping in the pool to cool off, haha.
“I really am a food blogger” – hahahah! I love it. And your smoothie sounds delish! (Of course, everything on your site always does…)
mmmm, these sounds good!
My lates smoothie favorit is the Mango- goji smoothie I posted a few days ago! SO good, tastes like candy!
Just followed your recipe and made smoothie… n i dare say, “M Lovin It” :)
that was fast! thanks for lmk you’re lovin it :)
This sounds so tropical and delicious! And I can’t wait to try your other smoothies as well! I don’t make smoothies often enough, but I do love green smoothies, especially with avocado.
yumm those smoothies look delicious! I love smoothies especially in the summer time! I don’t think I have one particular one as a favorite. Too many choices! Most of the time I just throw in whatever I have and blend away. They’re pretty much perfect any time a day :)
P.S. I have a giveaway on my blog for NuNaturals products – NuStevia Packets and NuNaturals Vanilla Stevia Liquid – if you or any of your readers are interested. (Giveaway ends today!)

Thanks!
OMG the smoothie looks amazing but what has me really drooling is the pool! I’m so ready for summer now. The leaves are just starting to come out here so I have a little while to wait yet.
Glad you are enjoying your vacation!
Those smoothies look so yummy and refreshing! My fave smoothie combos are frozen strawberries with water and applesauce, and the other one is just frozen bananas with milk. Super simple, super yummy!
Enjoy Aruba! It’s currently cold, grey and rainy in New England. Smoothie looks delicious :)
I didn’t add rum to this, but you could. – And yes, I WOULD. ;)
Really, smoothies are not a meal for me either. I drink them like any other beverage and don’t consider them food. Good or bad? I don’t know and I don’t care!
While I do drink green monsters, I also like smoothies with no veggies! I don’t like them by themselves though, I have to have a small one and then have a snack right afterwards. Otherwise my stomach has no idea what to think! I totally get that strange liquid bloated feeling too!
Mmmm! I have O.N.E. coconut water in passionfruit flavor that allows me to pretend I’m on vacation. Sometimes I wonder if it too would be good with rum… probably not
Oo, this sounds delicious. And it would make a nutritious breakfast…if you dont add the rum :)
I love smoothies – for breakfast on the go and too cool down after a workout… I love adding the spinach, kale to my smoothies because its a good way to get extra veggies in. Your Aruba beach pictures are fantastic :)
thanks, Nichole!
Awesome smoothie recipe Averie! Definitely a perfect one for summer! I completely agree that, in general, I’m not a smoothie person, but I do enjoy them on occasion, especially in the summer. I’ve gotten pretty good an green smoothie combination and love them, but I need to experiment more with fruity combinations!
Your smoothie looks delish, as do all your creations!
This is totally off topic, but I just placed my first order with IHerb and wanted to thank you for the promo code. I’m super excited to receive my goodies :)
oh thanks for lmk you used the code and hopefully you saved lots of $$ :)
You know– I’m having a BALL in France. BUT– this post made me majorly jealous of YOUR vacation!!! There’s just something about a tropical drink!!! Yum! Have a blast, girl!
Oh yummy! So tropical! It’s raining here, so this makes me feel warm!!(even though it’s a smoothie!)
Have fun on your vacation! Super jealous!
I love smoothies :) I actually went through a phase where I had a green smoothie every day for breakfast but I don’t do that anymore. I do enjoy them occasionally though. And plus, I don’t like certain greens in salads so I still get some in by blending them up. I’ve been enjoying strawberry banana lately but it’s time for something new :) Love the tropical flavors idea!
These look so fresh and light, I may just add rum to naughty it up a bit! Great inspiration for summer smoothie time, and vacation looks amazing!
I am a HUGE smoothie person….I have a smoothie about 5-7 times a week! lol, its such a great way to start the day….that avocado smoothie in a bowl looks awesome!
That looks so delicious! Last July we rented a house on Arashi beach. I love aruba but I HATE the airport there. Have fun!
As Caribbean and non-US based airports go, it’s better than most I think. I remember once I was traveling thru a small airport in the Domincan Republic and they didn’t even have a roof over the entire thing…..and it was raining! yikes!
Glad you had fun in Aruba!
That’s true. The Jamaican airport was nuts last year…no communication between employees whatsoever. Best part about traveling outside the US is Duty Free shopping!! I had a blast, hope you are too!
Those smoothies look like they would hit the spot! Perfect for right by the pool :)
Alright lady, making me a BIT envious over here ;)
Enjoy some sunshine and cocktails for me love!
I can practically taste it!! Lovely combo! So glad you’re having a blast in Aruuuuuuuuuuba! <3
I can see how thick that smoothie is — and I would just have to pour some rum in there.
I like smoothies — usually I have a large one with breakfast and I make smaller ones for after workouts. As long as they are loaded with ingredients (fruit, protein powder, peanut butter + more) then I find them very filling!
Those smoothies look yummy! I forget about the canned options sometimes so that’ll make having a nice pineapple smoothie more convenient!
Do you like your Magic Bullet? I’m trying to compare the bullet verses the Tribest personal blender.
it’s fine but after using a Vita, it’s umm….no where near what I am used to. For what it is, it’s fine…havent used the Tribest so cant say but it’s no Vita, that’s for sure :)
good to know, thanks!
I’m really not a smoothie person. I see them and they look and sound fantastic, but I like to eat/chew my food ;-)
That flavor combination sounds amazing!
I’m impressed you did all that food prep/photos on your vaca! Looks great. Enjoy the sun :)
I LOVE smoothies (especially the looks of your vanilla avocado one)!
Oh how I wish I were in 90 degree weather!!!
Too funny because I just posted our most recent favorite banana smoothies this morning :) This looks so refreshing..yum!
Oh yum!!! I need to start adding rum to my smoothies. What a great idea! :) I don’t think I would have any leftovers though.
it’s 6:10 a.m., it’s pouring rain, and i still wore mittens when i went out yesterday. aruba? yes, please! take me awayyyyyy!!! early mornings in aruba are the best: sun coming up, no one up and about yet, the birds singing…do enjoy!
not a smoothie person at all. but your photos are pretty!
I really want one of those smoothies right now! I love smoothies, especially in summer. Mine usually include bananas and/or strawberries or blueberries, just what’s easily available around here. For me smoothies are more a dessert or snack, not a meal, they’re simply not filling and sustaining enough.
Enjoy your day at the beach!
Tropical smoothies are amazing. Especially on a cold rainy day where the sun is nowhere in sight. A tropical smoothie always reminds me of warmer climates and happy holidays.
Oooh that smoothie looks delicious, I love tropical smoothies! My favourite at the moment is banana-spinach-pineapple-milk but yours looks way more luxurious! :)
Also very envious of your photoshoot by the pool, makes me want to go on holiday right now! Hope you’re having a great time :)
