What I’ve Learned as a Blogger, What Have You Learned, Weekend Pictures

Hi Friends!  How has your weekend been?  I am so glad to be done working for a couple days.  Ahhh, my “weekend” is finally here starting today!  Later this afternoon we’re going out to sit outside on a patio somewhere and enjoy the hot weather and sunshine.  And I do mean hot.

Trees with blue sky

It’s 94F, sunny, and downright hotter than it was all summer!  I am running my a/c for the third time in 2010.  It’s that hot and not a cloud in the sky.

Maybe when we’re out we’ll have some appetizers and there may be an adult beverage involved.   Not sure though because I actually am fighting off a cold.  Nothing like burning the candle at both ends, working a ton, not sleeping enough, and a wicked change of temperature out of the blue to bring on a cold.  I haven’t had a cold in ages, and am not full-blown sick or anything, but just fighting it off, and it’s hot as balls out and it reminds me of being a kid and getting a summer cold.

Here’s a few weekend pictures so far

I am wearing a sports bra and shorts because we just went on a walk, it’s super hot, and I dress for the conditions.  An anonymous commenter the last time I posted a picture of me in a sports bra left a few choice words for me about my choice of attire.

From yesterday’s post, thanks for telling me the things you cherish.

It’s all about the simple things, the easy things, those are what give us the most reward and joy it seems.

Working out with your spouse at your side like Heather said or just being grateful you have a roof over your head.

Or watching your kiddo swing by herself and just giggle and be happy at the park.

I snacked on some Chocolate Brownie Protein Oats
I make these ahead of time and then store them in the freezer.  I usually have 2-3 containers in rotation in the freezer.  By freezing them, it’s kind of like frozen brownie.  Dense, rich, but probably healthier probably than an actual brownie.  But if you close your eyes, you can fool yourself and think that it’s really just a frozen rich brownie which is not a bad thing.

Dip of the Day:  “Spicy Doritos” Cheezy Dip
If you don’t have the seeds I used, use all sunflower seeds, or add in cashews, or even almonds.  Feel free to mix and match with what seeds/nuts you have on hand.

Dessert: Raw Vegan Chocolate Pie
This was one of the first desserts I ever made “for my blog” and clearly, my food photography, sucked.  But, the recipe, does not.  It’s actually awesome and I highly recommend it.  Ahhh, a little trip down Food Blogger Memory lane seeing these pictures.

1. Best thing you’ve ate or done this weekend?
Me = Enjoying unseasonably warm weather, being with my family, taking some power walks together, got in a couple nice Lifting Workouts at home.  They came from my Workout Tab
Scroll down to the part about If you Can’t Get to the Acutal Gym…  That’s what I did.

And we’re about to go out and have some fun, out of the house later on.  Not behind the computer screen. Amen.

2. Do you think that there’s any truth to rapid change of seasons or temperature shifts bringing on colds or making one more susceptible to viruses?
I used to think my mother and grandmother’s advice to “bundle up in the winter or you’re going to catch a cold” was just over-protective grandmotherly advice; that who cares if it’s hot or cold out, or if you’re hot or cold, your immune system is going to do it’s job regardless.  But I am not sure anymore.  Maybe they were on to something, as are all grandmothers.

However, sleep, good food, water, those are the things that are essential to staying healthy no matter what.

3. As a Blogger, what things do you feel like you’ve learned as your blogging days have progressed?

I feel like I’ve learned:

How to take much better food pictures

I’ve learned the technical side of blogging, i.e. learning the Blogger platform, learning how to upload images, drop in links, play with HTML code, fun stuff like that

I’ve become a better writer

I’ve found my own blogging voice and am not trying to emulate anyone else’s

I’ve made wonderful friends along the way.  I consider my “blogging friends” to be real friends.  Just because we’ve never met doesn’t make them any less “real”.

I’ve grown a thicker skin and care less about being judgedStill hurts at times, but less so.

I did a post on What Blogging Really Entails.  I encourage anyone who’s thinking of starting a blog to read it because I do not sugar coat what’s truly involved.

For anyone who thinks they are going to start a blog and get rich, or get rich overnight, I highly suggest just getting a job.  Do bloggers get free jars of this or that, or a coupon for a free such and such?  Yes, from time to time.

Would it be more productive from a time-management perspective to simply buy your own food? Yes!

Blogs don’t just take an hour or two to maintain and maintain well.  They take dozens, if not hundreds of hours, each month.  It’s cheaper in the long run to buy your own food if you know what I mean.

Is blogging rewarding ?  Immensely so.  More than I could have ever dreamed.  I have learned so much about myself, about other people, how to write, how to write for an audience while still staying true to myself and it’s been a great learning experience and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
What have you learned as a Blogger?

4. If you’re not a Blogger, but only read blogs, what have you learned by reading blogs?  And for the bloggers, what do you still continue to learn by continuing to read other people’s blogs?

Enjoy what’s left of your weekend and I’ll see you tomorrow!
