Do you love how cheesy this title is, tot-chos, rather than tater tot nachos? Yes I went there, I am cheesy.

And so are these tater tots that are topped with taco-seasoned ground beef and plenty of cheese.

Fast, Easy, Perfect For Parties

The tot-chos are easy, ready in no time, and are perfect for parties of all kinds including Cinco de Mayo or game day parties.

I know hungry fans would love digging into these.

And this isn’t the healthiest or most well-balanced dinner idea, but on a night you’re craving some warm, cheesy, carby, comfort food and plan to curl up on the couch to catch up on your favorite shows, these are a perfect. No shame in admitting I have those nights.

How To Make The Tot-Chos

Simply bake frozen tater tots until they’re done, transfer them to an oven-proof skillet, top with taco-seasoned ground beef, cheese, and bake until the cheese melts.

So easy but so good and just a handful of ingredients. The crispy tater tots are the perfect layering food for the juicy ground beef, melted cheese, and cool fresh tomatoes.

Topping Ideas

I kept these pretty basic because my daughter isn’t quite the condiments queen that I am, but if you want to jazz them up, feel free to add sour cream, black olives, green onions, shredded lettuce, guacamole, taco sauce, salsa, and she couldn’t resist adding ketchup.

Tater tots are the type of food that can soak up just about any condiment you want to toss at them.

Yield: serves 8
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 40 minutes
Total Time 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds frozen tater tots
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (I used 85%)
  • one 1.25-ounce package taco seasoning (I used reduced-sodium)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend
  • 1 Roma tomato, diced for garnishing
  • fresh cilantro, for garnishing
  • optional sour cream, black olives, green onions, shredded lettuce, guacamole, taco sauce, salsa, ketchup etc. for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Place tater tots on a sheet pan and bake according to package directions until as done and crisped as desired. Keep oven on and set temp to 425F.
  2. While tater tots bake, to a large skillet add the ground beef and cook over medium-high heat until done. Crumble beef as it cooks to ensure even cooking.
  3. Add the taco seasoning and stir to combine.
  4. Transfer cooked tater tots to an oven-proof skillet, spray with cooking spray, and arrange tots in a single flat layer.
  5. Top with the ground beef in the center, sprinkle with the cheese, and bake for about 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
  6. Garnish with tomato, cilantro, any optional items, and serve immediately. Tot-chos are best warm and fresh.
