The other day I posted about This 30 Day Challenge
I posted about Day 26 – What kind of person attracts you
My thoughts on it all as well as some great comments about what qualities you’re attracted to, and what are some deal breakers, are all here.
Today I am going to tackle Day 2 – Where I’d like to be in 10 years
In no particular order:
I will be alive and healthy
I will be strong in mind, body, and spirit
Skylar will be 14 and in high school and college will be looming in just a few years. Sniff, sniff. I can’t even imagine her going off to college. Heart attack right now.
Happily married to Scott (it will be our 20th year of marriage, 10 years from now)
I probably won’t be blogging. I know, but who among us will be blogging in 10 years? There will be something else that has captured my heart and attention. And there will be a new wave of ‘things’ to do. Blogging will be So 2011.
I will be living in San Diego
I will be working in some capacity, but probably not in my current job (for safety reasons I don’t discuss all the details of my life and work here)
Scott will be retired (I hope!). He’s 17 years older than me so in 10 years he will be retirement age
We will live a house that we own that may be my “forever” house that I plan to spend the middle portion/many decades of my life in
I will have gotten another credential/education. I am believer in lifelong education and everything from having my real estate license to my yoga teacher credentials to being a lactation educator are examples of my lifelong pursuit of education. And there will be more things. I just don’t know what, yet.
We will have traveled lots and shown Skylar the world. Picture from This Post
We will have spent lots of time at our house in Aruba
I will have a greater understanding of who I am as a human being, always discovering and learning
I will still be eating mostly plants. I don’t see my dietary path changing that much. I feel like I’ve finally found my path and don’t see major changes to it. Tweaks of course, but not overhauls. Picture from This Post
I will have tried tons of different workouts and exercise and fitness pursuits. I will still be doing yoga, running, and walking outdoors; which are my true passions. (See my Popular Posts Tab halfway down for a half dozen popular fitness posts and thoughts, i.e. How to Get Abs and Tough Love)
I will have awesome friends
I will be debt free
Skylar will be my best friend
From my last post, I am glad you enjoyed the Roasted Veggie Dinner recipes and it was great hearing if you’re a fan of the Food Network and what your fave shows are!
Weekends call for muffins Vegan GF Cinnamon Raisin Banana Oatmeal Muffins
Cinnamon Raisin anything will make your house smell amazing for hours!
And if you don’t even want to fire up your oven, make a Biggie Microwave Banana Oat Cake
And of course, don’t forget to include some chocolate over the weekend.
Raw Vegan Coconut Oil Chocolate
Questions:
1. Best thing you’ve ate or done so far this weekend?
A glorious power walk with my family!
2. Are you amazed at the path your life has taken thus far?
No one can predict how life will turn out. I can’t predict 3 months from now let alone 10 years. Sometimes I can’t even get through the day with any kind of predictable schedule or routine!
If someone told me 10 years ago how my life was going to unfold, I would have laughed at them! Me? Cooking, writing a food and lifestyle blog, raising a child? I would have laughed!
3. Where will you be in 10 years or where would you like to be in 10 years?
It’s interesting that when I was writing where I envision my life in 10 years, it reminded me of my 2011 Intentions, i.e. my goals or some would say “resolutions”. The things I want to happen in 2011 and am working hard to achieve are not much different from my 10 year life goals, intentions, and desire.
Tell me about Your Life in 10 Years!
Quick question for you – do you peel your cukes before putting them in salads? A lot of people do but I love the peels and the crunch! :)
Best thing I did this weekend was get my rental property cleaned so my new tenants can finally move in tomorrow! Actually it wasn’t that fun but I am glad that I can say I am done with that for now.
I am a little amazed on where I am today, 26 years old and already owning my 2nd home, and really didn’t think I would get so into cooking as I have, and of course being a vegetarian I didn’t think I ever would be able to, but that was before I was properly educated on food/health.
In 10 years from now I would like to be self employed and working for myself. I want to have a few different rental properties and not have to work a 9-5 job. I see myself being married and having my first child within the next 10 years and most likely still living in Wisconsin.
Great post on where you will be in 10 years. Loved it!
Best thing I did over the weekend: snuggle by the fireplace while the furnace was awaiting repairs.
Always amazed at the paths life places us on. The world is constantly unfolding before us.
In 10 years I would like:
– to be working 3 days a week instead of 5
– to have traveled to Australia, New Zealand and Thailand
– to be celebrating my 19th wedding anniversary
– to be living in our forever home, on a good sized piece of land where we can garden & grow our own food
– to be learning new things & skills
– to still be a geek
Best thing I ate this weekend was a salmon fillet at Noah’s b-day dinner Saturday night. It was pretty much amazing!
I often think about 10yrs down the road. My kids will be 19 & 22, I’ll be 46. Holy shit!!! I may very well be an empty nester, but I hope they don’t stray too far. And I hope that we are all still healthy and employed with a nice roof over our heads. I also hope that we get lots of travelling in.
That’s a beautiful 10year plan…when i think ten years into the future I can’t help but think where I was ten years ago, and SO many things have changed…I guess I dont’ have a clue about ten years from now. But I think I’ll sit down and think it over anyway, thanks for the inspiration :-)
I love your view on lifelong education. I’m already thinking about pursuing my yoga instructor’s license sometime in the future after massage therapy school! In 10 years I just hope to be loving life even more than I love it now. I know better than to try to predict ANYTHING that will happen… my life is nuts. ;)
I loved reading about what you think your life will be like in 10 years!
My life in 10 years:
– I will have a few kids :-)
– I will be happy and healthy
– I will be done my master’s degree and working at the University as an evening instructor
– I will be in my “forever” house
In 10 years my husband will be retired and I hope:
1. We will live in the south in a sun-filled house with lots of friends and activities to keep us busy.
2. We will be near some of our kids and grandkids and be involved in their lives.
3. We will be content at home but have the freedom to travel as much as we like.
4. We will both continue to be healthy, fit and very active with skiing, hiking, and every day fitness routines.
Loved reading this :) It was beautiful.
I hope that you get everything you want and so much more
xoxo
gosh i can only wonder wehre i’ll be in ten years. hopefully HEALTHY, married (if someone will put up with me) with kids (if I can, I think I’d like 4–eek!), successful in my field and HAPPY.
blogging will never be ‘so 2011– i have hope!
Great goals in 10 years, I can identiry with still being married, bring debt free and hopefully tackling a new career path. Love the muffin ideas.
1. Went to a Kings basketball game and actually got to seem them win which is pretty rare these days. :-P
2. Yes and I feel very fortunate. Maybe I’d like to be making more money, but I really enjoy the non-profit company I work for and their missing – totally worth it.
3. Making more money, traveling, debt free and who knows. I’d like to be still in northern California close to family.
Thank you so much for your sweet comment!! I absolutely love your bloggity blog, and it made my day that you stopped by! :)
I can’t wait to get on this 30-Day Challenge bandwagon! I love how thought-probing this one is, I think I’m going to surprise myself with my answers:)
p.s. Don’t worry, your daughter has a great mother, she will be an angel in college!
i know skylar will be good in college…it’s ME…that will miss her so much!
cant wait to see what you do with the challenge :)
Hi Averie!
What a great post. It’s evident that you put a lot of thought into it. Thanks so much for sharing!
So far, the best thing I’ve done this weekend was going on a huge walk (4+ hours!) with my husband. We bundled up, put on our backpacks and walked. We ended up picking up groceries (fruits and veggies), which filled both of our backpacks. We’re both so lucky that we can walk to get food!
I’m incredibly happy about the path my life has taken so far! I’m working in a field in which I obtained my undergrad degree and … I’m really enjoying the work! I’m healthy, my family’s healthy; I’ve travelled; have lots of friends; married my true love.
In 10 years:
– still working in the same field, with the same employer (don’t see myself leaving)
– married for 11 years
– hopefully at least one sabbatical year under my belt, could be on a second one
– permanent home in the city in which I presently live
– likely not owning a house (not the best choice for us, but could be for others)
– kids? not sure yet! :-)
xo

i did put lots of thought into it, and your reply was the same..thank you :)

Aww what a lovely post! And you’d better still be blogging in 10 years time, or where will I get my Averie fixes and yummy eats from? :P
In 10 years I want to be married, and to be healthy, happy, and loving life still! :D
you’re too sweet :)
omg. 10 years?! i got asked where do i see myself in 5 yrs in an interview on friday. i hate those questions because life is so unpredictable! i have goals for myself but i try hard not to carve out too detailed a path because life just doesn’t work that way! best thing about this weekend was starting to move some things out of storage into the townhouse we are renting. more about some very exciting things later ;)
I just found your blog and love it. Last night I made your apple crisp. Fabulous and tonight I want to make one of your sauces for zucchini noodles. And sometime during the week make your cheesy veggie bake sans cheese.
So far your recipes are great thanks for sharing.
But my real question is what percentage raw are you? And were you able to maintain your rawness while training for competition?
My husband wants me to do fitness contests so bad. I would love to be able to do it for him. I want it too but I have never been close to contest ready in my life. Now that I’m 80% raw vegan I have lost weight but unfortunately muscle too. I’m so weak in fact I have severe elbow issues which probably needs surgery but it won’t happen. So lifting is difficult for me.
I’m sure you answer these questions somewhere in your blog and I’m trying to read it all but time will not allow me read as much as I would like. So thanks in advance for your reply.
Your an inspiration to me.
Cynthia
hi cynthia i am not really concerned about a “percentage raw”. that has never been my thing. I eat things as close to their original state as possible, most of the time. But i dont stress, obsess, count, or track. I have no idea what % i am. Doesnt matter to me to assign a value to things.
For my show, i ate the way i eat now. Mostly raw, i didnt add lots of protein powders, i just did what i do now.
Re-read the links in this current post under what I have found for my current diet, that i am not changing it.
Then, go to my popular posts tab and read the links under the fitness section.
That will clear lots up for you!
Hmmm…where will I be in 10 years? Whenever I am asked this question, I think, where was I 10 years AGO? So much can happen in 10 yrs! I have no idea if I will still be in NYC, though I assume so. In 10 yrs I will own a home and a car, I will have the means to get botox and a breast lift if I want it – not that I will because I will age so gracefully via yoga and clean eating. I will still be an active health-nut. And I will be happy. I will have done a lot of things that make me proud. I will have traveled. I may be married, maybe not, but still be with Andrew.
I really enjoyed this post. In ten years I hope to have traveled across Europe, got certified for yoga, found a career that I love and perhaps a someone too. ;) But really who knows!
Set your life more simple take the home loans and all you need.
no Skylar is not allowed to grow up, haha
she is going to be such a beautiful wise girl, just like her mom!
I love your new blog layout!
Your passion for life and learning shines through in every post.. I love it!
wow…i’m so loving the design of your blog …so nice! :)
i think I’ll be doing this 30 day challenge…i may have to skip on some days because the challenges on those days are too personal to discuss…hehe :)
nicey nice :)
I quite enjoy this challenge. May I borrow it for my own blog?
such a cute post!!! the best thing i ate this weekend were my tofu brownies i just made!!– so fudgy and LOVE EM
in 10 years… wow… maybe i will be married.. settling down.. wOWW okay this is sounding so WEIRD i dont think i can think that far in advance!
It was really lovely to read about where you see yourself in 10 years! Dont fret too much about skylar going to college. San Diego has some great school and if she goes to somewhere in LA, I’ll have her back ;)
What a great post :) All of your goals sound fabulous and so YOU. It is amazing to try and look forward ten years. Best thing I ate all weekend? Cantaloupe. Best thing I did? Spend time with Josh Friday night. Have I been surprised at the path my life has taken? Not really. I’ve been in the drivers seat for most of it! I wanted to be married to a wonderful man and live in the South :) And be happy and healthy.
Hi Averie! Back from beautiful San Diego and back to life! Good to visit there and take my class but great to be home in beautiful Santa Cruz again, too…
1. Best thing I have drank this weekend: enjoyed a large Americano with steamed organic, unsweetened soymilk, cinnamon and vanilla stevia with my hubby!
2. Am I amazed at where I am in life now? Well, 10 years ago, I had 2 kids and was married so I hoped that my life would continue in that vein, which it has. However, I never would have thought I would become a nutrition consultant and colon hydrotherapist so those are places that I am amazed that I have arrived at. Thankful for them, though.
3. Where would I like to see myself in 10 years? My boys will be 22 and 24 and my husband and I will have been married for 26 years and I’ll be 48. I would like to be involved in my boys lives, wherever their paths take them, as their dear friend and supporter, I would like to have my own practice, doing Nutrition Consulting and Colonhydrotherapy and have a beautiful garden in my big back yard.
My mom always says that we raise our children to leave us. It’s so true. My mom raised me to be strong and independent and I had no problem moving out and being successful when it was time. I know that I owe her all the credit. You will find a way to do the same for Skylar.
Oh I have no doubt Skylar will be succesfsul. It’s me..that will miss her so much. But yes, they are only “ours” for so long. And then…they go live their own life! I hope she still lets me brush her hair when she’s a big girl :)
I will either be living on a farm raising my family and doing the CSA thing during the summers and writing in the winters OR I will work for a legal aid assisting families in need with their legal woes. Hopefully still writing. Hopefully not holding my oldest hostage as she graduates from high school and hopefully still exploring life love laughter and knowledge each and every day alongside my teenage children (and possible others) with Ryan. :)
I love your goals/dreams/visions! :)
I just hope I have a job.
No seriously, I have no idea where I want to live, or what I want to be doing in 10 years. I can’t plan that far ahead. 10 yrs ago I was living the life of luxury in Hawaii with not a thought about the future. I look ahead and plan, but more like a year. 10 years makes me want to pull out my hair. I’ve never been one to be all “I want to have a husband and 2 kids and white picket fence” anyway.
Wow, I realized that answering this question makes me totally nervous!
Ten years ago I was in middle school, getting ready for cheerleading tryouts. That doesn’t seem so long ago! And I’m exactly where I thought I would be ten years from then – in LA, working as an actress – though I thought I would be more successful haha.
Ten years from now I want to still be in LA, and I want to be writing and acting and have reached a level of success that allows me to work as much as I want and choose my projects. And travel. That’s all I know. I haven no plans or desires to get married or anything like that.
good luck in achieving your goals! Vege for that long! I surely can’t do it!
loved reading how you envision your life in 10 years, averie! thanks for sharing!
yea, who knows WHAT technology we’ll have even 5 years from now! “blogging” could be so old-school!
i, too, believe in reinventing yourself, as in continuously learning and trying new things. that’s a goal for me, too. in 10 years, i’ll still be living where i do now, i hope…apart from that, i’m open to new opporunities finding me!
10 years is so hard!!! 10 years ago i was 14 hmm i can’t even remember that haha
umm i think in 10 years i would for sure want to be debt free. hopefully in love-ish and DEFINITELY happy :) oh and not living at home would also be awesome hahah
Averie!!! I’ve commented on your blog a few times before when I was a blogger myself (haha – I admire your enthusiasm!)
May I just say, that your blog is soooo enlightening, and makes me really, really happy to read. Having just been told to find an alternative to wheat, I find your GF recipes/meals so helpful! nom nom. You and Skylar are a gorgeous pair, and I absolutely adore your relaxed approach to life, living and health in general.
xxx
thanks for the lovely words, Reigne!
Aw, I love the part about showing your daughter the world. I think it is so cool that you have a house in Aruba!!
don’t know what will happen in 10 years…but for me in 10 years (some of these are really big dreams…and i always dream big… :)
1. i will have my own wellness center combining allopathic and homeopathic medicine (certified yoga teacher + M.D./M.P.H.)
2. have a loving family (2-3 children) with my current manfriend
3. trained in tropical medicine so i’ll be traveling sometimes doing medical missions throughout the world
4. be medical correspondent for CNN
5. be a medical director for WHO
6. ran several half-marathons
7. always having faith in myself and in God (this is now and of course want to continue on forever…)
best thing i ate this weekend: coconut macaroons i made!
happy saturday night!
those are amazing goals, dreams, and realizations…and knowing you, they will ALL happen :)
I see you being exactly where you think you’ll be in 10 years. :) And it’s kind of sad to think we probably wont be blogging then..but it’ll be nice to have the blogs no matter what as little diaries.
In 10 years = I will be happy and healthy, will continue working out and eating well, I will hopefuly be debt free (besides college tuition of course), and *tear* my Noah will officially be an adult at age 18 :(
Hello Averie,
Great article and content as you always had, congrats! That child is such an angel, I can’t stop smiling! The pictures with food always make me drool and they make me very hungry, such as your images, lol. I’m going to answer your questions now:
1. Best thing you’ve ate or done so far this weekend?
– Ate 2 pizzas.
2. Are you amazed at the path your life has taken thus far?
– Yes, my life is finally on the right path, the path I’ve chosen, the path – I want.
3. Where will you be in 10 years or where would you like to be in 10 years?
– I believe with all my heart that in 10 years I will be a singer or an actress, that’s what I believe, hope and would have liked. God bless us!
Tell me about Your Life in 10 Years!
I hope I will follow my artistic feelings, get in touch with the music, the movies. Have some concerts, play in some movies and do a lot of philantrophy. Also, I will not let down my online entrepreneur life though I will have a lot of work sustaining both art and (online) businesses. Thank you for sharing this interesting article!
Best regards,
Maria
I love your outlook on the next 10 years!! I’m also a believer in educating yourself all through life! Learning should not end at a certain age, or after a certain degree. :)
I never expected my life to turn out the way it has, not even if you asked me 10 years ago when I was just diving into my 20s. 10 years from now? To summarize: Healthier, wealthier, and wiser in all departments! :)
It’s crazy to think where my life (or anyone’s, really) will be in 10 years!
In 10 years, I hope to be employed in the US Foreign Service. Married with children. Still debt free. Happy. Healthy. :)
This was fun to read. In 10 years, there are too many different paths to even think about. I’d be happy with a steady job in the food biz, marriage, and a dog. I already have picked out the breed and name of the dog I want to get, but I’m keeping that under my cap until the time comes :-)
There is no way I would have ever imagined even a few years ago that my life would be where it is right now. But I LOVE it. I can only hope that in 10 years I’ll still be happy, healthy, and who knows? Maybe I’ll even live some place longer than 18 months?
I absolutely love your new blog design! It was fun to hear where you think you will be in ten years. For me, I hope to be working as a program director for an infant/toddler program where I can provide high quality care to children and their families. I will have my master’s in Early Childhood Education, and will be married with at least one child :) This is fun to think about…thanks!
First of all, love the new site design Averie! It seems so you!
I also love this post. Ten years is an interesting thing to think about. In ten years I hope to be an established human rights lawyer working within international NGOs and potentially the US government. I hope to be married and have a child, but I am not sure about that one. I can’t really imagine married me, but I can certainly imagine having a baby; I have always wanted children. I hope to be a good mother, a good friend, a good daughter, a good wife/girlfriend. I hope to be doing exciting things with my writing, my personal life, and my career!
thank you for the compliments my friend! and i noticed you have a new hyperlink. nice! :)
In ten years I will be married and pregnant? I plan to also be a professional dancer and champion!! What else….I’m not sure! Your life in ten years sounds perfect!
1.) Finally broke my fever and started to feel better. I know, so exciting, haha.
2.) Life is crazy unpredictable, but it’s been AMAZING the way it’s turned out. I always think of how, if I never would have walked into that dance studio back in 2008, I never would have met my best friend/soul mate. Look at my life now! :)
3.) In 10 years I will be 33 years old… regardless of what I’m doing or where I am, I know 100% who will be by my side.
In 10 years… I will still be with my boyfriend (husband?!)…it will be our 15th year together! I will have my PhD in Clinical Psychology and be teaching at a university (somewhere with a warm climate…). I will be healthy and happy and also debt-free!
