When weather is warm I crave fruit more so than other times of the year.

Peach Banana Colada Smoothie

And it’s plenty warm here in Aruba.

So fruit smoothies have been in full swing.

They’re also easy, fast, plant-based, naturally vegan and gluten free.

And kiddie-approved, too.

SkylarShe begs me for smoothies.  There are far worse things she could beg me for.

This is an easy request:

Peach Banana Colada Smoothie (non-alcoholic)

2 small/medium bananas (previously frozen is ideal but not essential)

1 c peaches (I used canned peaches in light syrup, but fresh would be great)

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1 c ice cubes (use your judgment)

1/4 c white sugar (or sweetener to taste such as honey, agave, sugar, stevia, vanilla NuNaturals stevia drops.  Some may find sweetener optional but I don’t)

The remainder is optional:

1/4 c milk (nut milk, vanilla flavored nut milk, milk, cream, or peach mango milk)

1/3 c additional fruit (such strawberries, mango, pineapple, plums, nectarines, papaya, honeydew, cantaloupe, etc.)

1/4 c yogurt

1 tbsp chia seeds

1 scoop neutral or vanilla flavored protein powder

top with a handful of granola, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, raisins

For the adults: 1 to 2 ounces rum (dark rum, light rum, Malibu)

Blend everything in Vita-Mix, Magic Bullet, or blender until smooth.

Yields: one hearty portion or two more moderate portions.  Or, double the recipe, pour into plastic glasses and freeze, and pull out of the freezer as needed over the next few days to save time.

Add everything to the Magic Bullet.  I left the Vita at home. Blend and enjoy!

These have been great in the mornings…

…and also in the afternoons after the beach when we’re hot, tired, need something but don’t want to eat anything too heavy before dinner.

It was awesome reading over the comments on my last post, Local Aruba Sights, about your traveling adventures and whether you like to see the local sights when you travel and just how many “touristy” things you do.  Or avoid.

And please keep the comments coming on both the Business Cards Giveaway

And my post on Career Fantasy & Doing What You WantI love these!

Questions:

1. Do you like pina coladas?  Or peach coladas?

Yes, both.

But I like peach pina coladas better.

peach pina coladas

Something about the peach and the pineapple really hits the spot for me.  Vintage pictures, 2009

2. How’s your week going?  Anything exciting going on?

Being on vacation has been fabulous for me.  It’s given me some time to recharge my batteries and do some major thinking, soul searching, and pondering.

And it also has given me time to take care of some blog housekeeping details.  Like, I updated my Beverages/Smoothie Recipes Tab so you an find some recent hits more easily.  Thrilling, I know.

What’s been going on with you?

  1. you have the best smoothie creations! I get blender happy and just throw in anything I think might “work” in a smoothie and the flavors tend to get lost. I think I need to start picking a theme for the flavors and cut down the number of things I throw in so that the flavors meld together better. Glad your enjoying your vacation and getting time to just breathe.

    1. yes i find that concentrating a few flavors is better than the “everything in the kitchen sink” approach…but im known to do that sometimes too :)

  2. omg that looks so good. i can’t wait for smoothies this summer! anything with peach in it is fine by me!
what’s new with me? i put in my notice at my law firm and my last day is tuesday. i’m taking the summer off to reflect and figure out where i want to take my career and life next (i bookmarked your dream job post). oh, and i got my first tattoo on monday night! durga. i love it.

  3. This smoothie looks so refreshing, especially on the beach! I’m bringing my Magic Bullet with me on vacation this summer so we can whip up some smoothies in the hotel!

  4. Now a peach colada sounds right up my alley! Yum!

No exciting plans this week, just more doctor’s appointments. Not looking forward to today! Although the results of my bloodwork came back, ugh hypothyroidism. Considering every woman in my family has it, I really shouldn’t be surprised, but what a pain!

  5. The smoothie looks delicious — I’m not a huge pina colada fan (I’d never order one but I’d drink one!) but it sounds very refreshing right now!

  6. What a perfect beach drink. I made a healthier pina colada last year using bananas, coconut rum, and pineapples. The sweetness from the rum was all you really needed.

  7. Smoothies sound absolutely perfect in Aruba on vacation! Skylar’s lucky to have a mom who knows her way around the Vita-mix or Magic Bullet. ;) Cantaloupes are a perfect add-in, and so is the rum for the over-21 crowd haha.

    1. lots better for us than leaving it at home where it’s doing me no good is my thought process :)

  8. mmmmm this sounds fantastic! Gotta love the magic bullet!! I definitely like every colada I’ve ever tried ;). I actually prefer them sans alcohol (so…really a smoothie).

  9. averie, i just found your blog and wanted to say i love the vibe with which you go through life :) aruba looks like a blast and i’m feeling more relaxed just checking out your posts. as a new-ish yogi, i am also inspired by your workouts (and poses! amazing!) + balanced approach to exercise.

  10. smoothies are my daily fix during the summer. those sound right up my alley, maybe a little rum too.
    hehe.

  11. Hi love!

I am just enjoying all the beautiful pics : ) you guys are for sure having a beautiful vacation!

I love this smoothie! Sounds so yum and refreshing! I do like Pina Coladas, I dont drink them much, but when on a beach, I have had one before! Love it!

    Katie xoxo <3

  12. i never understood the meaning of “it is TOO HOT out” til i went to aruba. honestly, between 2-3 pm it is even too hot for me, and i adore sun and heat…the reason for siestas – i get it!
not a fruit flavour fan…chocolate or vanilla, yes. so have never tried a pina colada or any other fruity beverage (and please no fruit in my ice cream).
enjoy your relaxation time, and hope those ideas and a-ha’s keep flowing (like the rum!).
have a great day – you sure have lucked out with better weather than in december!

  13. Your sunny and beachy Aruba photos make me so happy! Lounging around on vacation is a good time to soul-search isn’t it?!
I crave fruit and fruit smoothies like crazy when it’s hot. Last summer I ate an entire cantaloupe in the span of about thirty minutes. They are just too good!

  14. mmm, this looks wonderful! I’m digging the idea of a peach colada. I used to be a pineapple fiend but sort of outgrew it…so sweet! I think rum is more than appropriate for a cold smoothie while sitting on the beach, though ;)
I’m glad being in Aruba for a break has given you time to think and recharge. Nothing exciting going on here except trying to break a new record for most tissues used in a week ;) I think I’ve already broken it…
