TGIF and Happy Halloween Weekend!
I have no big plans for Halloween other than hopefully playing with this.
I had been debating about a new lens for months and decided to order it and it arrived today. Normally I shoot with this camera and this lens <– That lens has not left my camera body for the entire duration I have owned it. Not kidding.
But I wanted a lens with a little more reach and also to have some diversity in my camera bag, i.e. zoom vs. prime lenses, and had been debating about the 85mm for months and decided to go for it. I know this is not exciting for some people but for me, it is. What can I say I have become more interested in lenses than loud Halloween parties.
I can’t wait to take my new friend out for a test drive this weekend.
We’ll also be taking Skylar out to the park this weekend.
And of course we have Halloween and trick-or-treating on Monday.
I wonder what kind of candy she’ll score?
I hope it’s good stuff so I can raid her pumpkin so that perhaps I can sample some of it. I hope she’ll share.
Sometimes I just want one piece of something. Don’t need a 50-count bag of the same thing. That’s where Princess Halloween pails come in handy. You know know what you’ll find in them.
And if she doesn’t want to share, that’s okay because I have homemade Butterfinger Bars
And now I’m off to bake up a batch of Pumpkin Peanut Butter Oatmeal Bars (Vegan, GF) and widdle my way through the 17 cans of pumpkin puree I may have stashed

Questions:
1. Weekend plans? Are you going to be wearing a costume or going to any parties? Any shenanigans that you foresee getting into?
Nothing too exciting on my end.
2. Did you share your Halloween Candy (or Easter Candy, Holiday Candy, etc.) with your parents? Did you have elaborate trading systems with your siblings or friends?
I wouldn’t really call it sharing. I’d call it donating the candy to my dad that I wasn’t going to eat anyway.
And yes, my sister and I and my friends and I had elaborate candy trading systems.
“I’ll trade you two packets of Sweet Tarts, 3 black and orange-wrappered stale peanut butter toffee things, and a random green apple Jolly Rancher for two Reese’s Peanut Butter cups. Sound fair?”

i don’t remember sharing or swapping with my brother. we both liked potato chips and choco bars, and sweet tarts…the rest of the candy just sat around til near xmas when my mom had us dump whatever was left in preparation for xmas treats. don’t remember my parents helping themselves to our treats, either (and they’re not the type to “steal” when we weren’t looking!).

I’m not doing much either; Halloween isn’t big in Germany like it is in the US. I miss candycorn!
My sister and I always dumped out our candy on the dining room table as soon as we got home, and sorted it into piles by type of candy. Then we traded for what we liked and didn’t like. If both of us didn’t like it, it got trashed or eaten by Dad. Sometimes I wish I could trick-or-treat again, just for the variety of candy, haha.
I would only share the gross candy with my parents :-) Hehe.
My brother and sister and I would trade like crazy. I am also pretty sure that they would both steal my candy a little bit at a time (in the weeks following Halloween), because I never got around to eating most of it.
We did the same type of trading. One year, I traded ALL my candy for all my siblings’ pb cups. That’s all I wanted that year. most of the time though, I’m all about variety.
I told my mom about your butterfinger bars and she really want me to make them. :D

You totally have your priorities straight. Other teenage girls want shoes, clothes, and jewelry. I want cameras and blenders. You understand.
1. I am going trick or treating with my friend for old time’s sake. I plan on being a good girl.
2. I don’t think I ever finished my candy so I was more than happy to share.
I still want shoes, clothes, and jewelry. But I REALLY want the camera stuff and blenders, too :)

We shared candy growing up for sure. I grew up with 2 sisters and we all liked different things so it was perfect. Lots for everyone! :-)

I am trying to be an agreeable friend and to stay busy this weekend, so I am dressing up tomorrow and going to the racino (horse races + casino = gross). I’d rather stay home, but I’m going to practice what I learned in my yoga teacher training last weekend….

i’ve been on amazon all night (exciting friday night, right?!) debating a new lens. i have my eye on the 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6. now if only i can get my husband on board with that purchase…
have you looked at the 24-70 or 24-105 instead if you are contemplating a zoom rather than a prime? i adore my 24-70. a bit more $ than the 18-200 but worth it for me, for sure.
yes, you will get a wider range of options with the zoom but you will sacrifice clarity in your images with the lens you are looking at.
not trying to talk you out of it, just playing devils advocate. lmk what you decide. it’s alllll soooo overwhelming!

I made my kids’ costumes. A wolf and Little Red Riding Hood :) the hubster and I aren’t doing anything particularly special other than taking our munchkins out!
I’m so excited for Halloween! I will be trick or treating, though not sure what my costume will be… most likely something lame ;) When I was younger, my 3 older sisters and I would dump all of our candy in individual piles, sort them by type, then trade. This year I am debating on whether to donate the majority of my candy to my dentist because he gives it all to a local charity and I won’t have 3 pounds of candy in my possession.

I already want a 50mm 1.2 I can dream, right? :)
Can’t wait to hear what your thoughts are on the 85mm. I’m still contemplating the canon 100mm macro. I use a 50mm/1.8 and a 17-50mm/2.8 now and love them both but think the 100mm macro would give a lot more clarity and range. Love watching your photography skills improving!! I just got my first DSLR at the beginning of the year and like you have fallen IN LOVE!! Actually, I am obsessed!! So I always love your photography posts and have learned so much from you. I am contemplating the 100m macro (L glass), too. For the money, apparently it’s a really solid lens with tack sharp images. Not just the macro part but for portraits and other things, too. That’s next up on my list of lenses, actually!
That, or a better 50 mm b/c like you I have the nifty fifty 1.8 and personally do not get good results with it. Want to get the 1.4 or 1.2

I’m just beginning to learn about photography, but my husband is a professional designer/photographer and has been letting me use his camera (after careful instructions!) for my blog. It’s the same one you have, but I’ve been using a Canon 24-105mm lens. I’m curious to see some of the photos you take with your new lens. There are so many intricacies that I’m really enjoying learning. :)
As for the Halloween candy – for the most part, my brother and I liked different things (he liked pb cups and starbursts, I liked 3 musketeers and junior mints). My dad would definitely sneak his fair share of snickers from both of us though! This was in addition to breaking into the candy my mom had bought for trick or treaters. She eventually had to start hiding it from him. haha
You are so fortunate to have a hubby who’s a designer/photographer…wow…what I wouldn’t give to have a hubs like that to bounce ideas off and share with and learn from. That must be such a blessing for you! And that you like him, too :)

Penny (teacher, mentor) swears by the 24-105. Less bulky and huge compared to the 24-70.
So you shoot with a 5D and a 24-105…no wonder your photos are beautiful. Plus, you know how to *food style* which is more important IMO than camera type. Bad styling, and the buck stops there…so to speak I think.
