Chia Oats, BrekCookie, Green Plates, & Desserts

How are you doing today on this legal holiday (for all the U.S. readers)?  Columbus Day in case you were wondering.   All I know is that the post office and bank were going to be closed today so I had to scamper and get my biz-nass taken care of on Saturday afternoon.

Anyway onto a little weekend eats roundup….

First, some overnight Chia Seed-Coconut-Mango Soaked Oats
1/3 c dry oatmeal + 2/3 c lowfat vanilla almond milk + 1/4 c coconut flakes + 1 Tbsp Chias + vanilla stevia + dried mango slivers

The next morning?  Creamy, coconutty, mango-ey, chia-ey action

Also I’ve still been groovin’ on Raw Vegan Brekkie Cookies that I tweak up, inspired by Gina’s recipe.
I use: 1 smooshed banana, 1/3 c oats, 1 Scoop Sun Warrior Brown Rice Protein Powder (BRPP), Stevia, cinnamon, and a drizzle of agave for moisture.

Mixed up

And I refrigerate and 18 hours later top with fruit like mangos, plums, & grapes.  And I like it all realllllly cold so I freeze the whole thing for an hour before I eat it.

Dinners entailed B.S., brock, cukes & zukes, cauli, and tomatoes, on a bed of spinach dressed with the juice of 1/2 an orange, agave, and crackity blackity

As well as spinach, zuke noods, tomatoes, carrots dressed in peanut sauce.

Remember this Peanut Sauce?  Yeah, the recipe is right here.

Close up of the P-Sauce…slurpity slurp.

And Plenty of Desserts went down my hatchet…

I made my Raw Vegan Apple Crumble again.

That juice is a mixture of vanilla extract, agave laced with cinnamon and brown sugar (which you can omit if you want to be truly raw)

Damn.  Very good I must admit.  Not my Gourmet Magazine worthy photo, the dessert itself.
Don’t you love my humility?  Kidding!

And, The Raw Vegan 5-Minute Donut Holes were really hittin’ the spot.  So much so that I created a chocolate version!  You’ll have to check back for the recipe…

VeganMofo in the house today.

Yoga today is Parsva Bakasana (Side Crane) on the leftWork your right and left sides equally so you don’t just keep getting stronger on your dominate side and weaker on the other.

Tip of the Day:  My Blondie Macaroon Give Away is going to end later Monday….so get your booo-tay entered NOW if you want a chance for some of these bad boys to arrive on your doorstep!

And Alisa’s also giving away Dairy Free Goodies!

And a Glass Straw GiveAway over here!

Oh and thanks for everyone who found me on Twitter so far!  It’s pretty cool that I’m connecting with you this way!  For anyone who wants to Follow, I’m at

What did you do over the weekend?  Does anyone have off work today because it’s a holiday?  I went shopping for an hour alone Sunday afternoon.  It was divine.  I tried on some really expensive jeans and now I am kinda wishing I bought them.  I could always go back, but…Not sure if they are worth it?  Ladies, how do you balance being “responsible” with just wanting to buy the cute clothes and treating yourself?   Give me your shopping strategy!  To buy or not to buy….

Stay tuned for the Raw Vegan Chocolate Donut Holes…….

  1. Love the belly and baby pics!!! I was all natural with my second. Wish I would have skipped the stupid epidural with my first! You are SO RIGHT- hind sight is 20/20! As for weekends hubby and I keep the kids up as late as they want or until they get fussy and we chill and have relaxing family time. The week is so busy for us- once Friday night rolls around we are ready to press the slow motion button on life!
ps. The tomatoes came out really good in the magic box!! Keep and eye on them though- my smaller ones got a little too cripsy. Try to cut them the same thickness if you can. They were fabulous on my salad and sandwich today!!!

  2. Cutest pics evah! I can understand why the lady thought you had beer belly – you were tiny!

I'm usually knackered on a Friday night and don't do much at all but I have a date (wit woo) with The Boy tonight and we're having cocktails and pub crawling home – hell to the yes :D

Have a lovely weekend lovely lady

  3. Oh, I just love those pictures of you and your little girl! She's so pretty and looks just like you! Did you run when you were pregnant? just wondering. Mixed reviews out there on that, just curious what you did.
I really need to try raw oats. I think I'm going to go stick some in the fridge for tomorrow right now!

  4. Wow. What awesome pics, Averie! Such a purdy, healthy lookin' momma and baby, too!

Recipes look awesome – as always!

  5. Aw, your daughter is so cute :)
And I can't believe some random woman told you you had a beer belly… RUDE. Even if it was true :|

  6. Love the flashback photos. I didn't gain a lot during my pregnancy, but I still looked pregnant. I'm only 5' 3 1/2," so there was no hiding the belly. I just never looked full term.

As for Friday nights, we stay in and have family night. Whatever we are doing, we make sure it's together :-)

  7. Absolutely adorable pics of you and the little peanut! I have no children, but if I could be promised to be as fit as you were during your pregnancy I would not no be so afraid! Did you stay raw, and do yoga durning your pregnancy? I have yet to try the oats soaked over night this way- but I LOVE the dried mango from Trader Joes… It's awesome that they have the dried fruit with nothing added to it!! Though I must say that the flattened bananas are my favorite- if you haven't tried them you really should!! Have a great weekend!

  8. Absolutely beautiful pics of you and your baby girl!! UH beer belly??? Honestly, some people have nerve! You looked incredibly healthy for a pregnant woman. Just out of curiosity did you change your diet at all when you were pregnant or were you raw then as well???

PS.. As for your ?, I get my carob chips in the bulk section of my local co-op market! Im not sure the actually brand or where they come from so Ill check this weekend. Have a super Friday Averie :)

OH PS.. Friday nights for hubster and I involve eating out then watching a movie.. I live for em!!

  9. Girl, your "baby belly" was beautiful! And what a gorgeous daughter! (Also, what gorgeous oats!)
You are a BRAVE chica for going all natural – mad props!!!

  10. I'm all about being low key. Technically my Friday is Saturday. By then, I'm so wiped all I want is dinner, a book, and a bed!

  11. Ughhh those macaroons look SO good! It's my sisters birthday this weekend and she's my go-to taste tester haha so I'm most definitely in need of checking out a whole lotta your recipes and making one :)

    love love loveee kombucha squash!!

  12. I love chocolate macaroons!! Your daughter is adorable…and you are a beautiful mom!!!

  13. Love the pics! Would you ever consider doing a post (or series of posts) on your pregnancy and delivery as a vegan? Do you think your diet and exercise (did you exercise much while pregnant?) made your pregnancy any easier/harder? My husband and I are beginning to think about TTC, but it seems like veganism/vegetarianism is frowned upon by doctors, and I'd also like to have a natural childbirth – also not favored, since they can't charge more money for drugs! Just a thought. Love your blog!

  14. Ohhh, I was planning on going to WF this weekend to pick up more of that coconut creamer! I love that stuff :) I'll need to try your soaked oats recipe.

Flashback friday! Ugh, I cannot stand people who say rude comments like that! Even if she thought you had a beer belly, why didn't she just keep it to herself. No one wants to hear that! Love the pictures of your daughter, though. You two are adorable!

  15. Hi, just found your site & love it, your recipes look amazing. You seem to be all about the natural lifestyle…but, and sorry if you find this question inappropriate, but do you have breast implants?

  16. Miss making tropical oats :(.

Props to you for having natural childbirth! Wish I would have. Did you the video Kristen from Kristen's Raw posted. Loved that video.

Thanks for the squash recipe. I have a buttload that I need to get to cookin'

  17. Looks like I know what I am doing with the squash sitting on my counter!

And your flashback pics are so cute! I did not look preggers either. My doc said it was bc I was tall. I remember having to ride the subway and with a winter coat I did not look preggers at all. People would get up for all these slightly pregnant ladies and I was 8months!!!

My hubs coaches football which means Friday night games. So the kids and I have a weekly movie and pizza night where we "picnic' in front of the tv, watch some family movie and eat pizza and salad. I love routine!

  18. Awwww baby pics! You had the teeniest pregnant belly! I look like that when I'm full, I think! Hahaha.

I really can't believe someone accused you of having a beer belly. Who even says that to ANYONE?! Rude!

I am loving the soaked oats! They look sooo good!

    Have a lovely weekend!

  19. Averie you are so beautiful! and so is your daughter :)
I love the belly picture! My sister is 6 months pregnant right now! I am so excited!!
I cant belive what that lady said to you!! haha. way to funny. I probobly would have punched her one ;) haha

  20. I was a pretty teeny belly when pregnant with my Teen…2nd baby (and 13 years later) I was a little bigger but still got disbelief at how "not pregnant" I was…it's wierd how people are!

you look sooooooooooo beautiful with your little bundle! 100% drug free is AMAZING. Would love to hear about it some time~ I got close but I had complications too.

I need to go stock up on my squash now! it's time.

I want a tropical vaca! LOVE the beach pics with the palupas in the background…we went to Cabo in 06' and some days I just look at the pics and breath!!!!!!!!!!

I love your flashback Friday..I should try one! FUN FUN

    and YES TGIF

and YES YES…Here's to single Mom's…(I've been there) it is TOUGH! I look at JJ and some days wonder how I did what I did with my oldest! hard times indeed and I am so grateful life is so well balanced now!

  21. I am kind of a home body. Tonight we're actually meeting up with friends in San Francisco for a birthday, but usually we just stay in and hang out :)

  22. I'm definitely a homebody.

You're pretty much a rockstar for doing natural childbirth!

Those chocolate 'roons have me brainstormin'…I am all about manipulating my oven into dehydrator status these days…

  23. I LOVE flashback Fridays!!! I should post something on my blog later if I have time. It's so much fun looking back at everyone's pics. I cannot get over that picture of you 3 days before you gave birth. You barely look 6 months pregnant!! Wow Averie! That stupid lady on the cruise ship probably didn't want to believe you because she was jealous! Skylar is gorgeous…a beautiful baby and a beautiful little girl. Must be the genes. :)

With Fridays it depends on how tired I am. Sometimes I want to do nothing other than lie on the couch, curl up in my sweats and watch a movie. Other times I will do anything so long as I'm out of the house. Tonight we're going to a friend's house for a party. Unfortunately I can't really drink or stay up late because we have an EARLY flight to NYC tomorrow! :)

  24. You are TOTALLY right… LOVE the sound of this recipe!!! I'm not quite a fan of mustard, but I'm sure I could whip up something similar. Thanks so much for the idea! :)

Aww, Skylar is SUCH a cutie. Thank you for sharing all these pics. She's definitely a lucky girl to have a mom that cares so much about her.

LOVE full backbends. Seriously has to be one of my all-time favorites. The stretch through your shoulders, chest, and abs is just fabulous!

  25. Awww – I love the baby pictures!! I laughed at the beer belly though – the audacity of some people ;)

Your squash recipe sounds fantastic!! It seems like it certainly would make the house smell wonderful! Those macaroons? Divine!

Glad you got your hubs back!! HAPPY FRIDAY!
