I love watermelon but sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach.

I recently bought a huge watermelon, but I didn’t realize exactly how huge until I was cleaning it.

It just kept going, and going, and going. It was multiplying on the cutting board, I swear.

But I wasn’t worried about what to do with it all because I can eat my weight in it, and I knew I’d freeze extra for slushies.

As a nice bonus, if you’re using frozen fruit in smoothies and slushies you don’t need to add ice which just waters them down.

The slushies can be made with our without alcohol, but it’s a holiday so I say go for it. Even if it’s not a holiday, I say go for it.

The lemon adds a bright tartness to the sweet watermelon and the slushies are incredibly refreshing. They go down fast, easy, and you’ll want a refill before you know it.

Sadly, I know this was probably the last watermelon of the season.

But it just made the slushies taste extra special.

Watermelon Lemon Drop Slushies

If you’ve ever bought too much watermelon, freeze extra for slushies. The slushies can be made with or without alcohol. Freeze the watermelon for 1 hour before blending it so you don’t need to add ice which would water down the slushies. The lemon adds a bright tartness to the sweet watermelon and the slushies are incredibly refreshing and go down fast and easy.
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Additional Time: 58 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour
Servings: 2 drinks, 6 to 8 ounces each

Ingredients  

Instructions 

  • To the canister of a blender or food processor, add all ingredients and blend on high speed until smooth, about 1 minute.
  • Divide mixture between two glasses and serve immediately. Extra slushie mixture can be kept in the freezer for up to 1 month by placing freezer-safe glasses inside a large ziplock bag to avoid freezer smells; allow to thaw for about 45 minutes before stirring and serving. If adding alcohol, recipe is intended for those for whom alcohol use is legal and appropriate. Always drink responsibly.

  6. I just brought home a huge watermelon too. We never have a problem eating a whole one in a couple of days, but I’ll put some aside in the freezer when I cut it today. I’m sure everyone will love it for Labor Day! We’ll probably be making the kid-friendly version though:)

Well you can skip the booze or make Jordan’s first, then add the booze to the blender for yours :) Thanks for pinning and watermelon keeps great in the freezer for slushies so you can always just slice and put in a container or baggie so at least you’re not wasting it and throwing it out (I loathe the feeling of throwing out food that went bad!)

  8. The temps and humidity have just gone up in the last week or so here in the midwest–this is the perfect kind of drink for the weather. I am guessing this could have been an Aruba inspired recipe–cold, slushy, and fruity would taste good all day long there! The photos are great–such a beautiful color! I was sweating more than the glass was! I made this recipe and the PB bars from my weekend post when I was down there. I was happy with the lighting in these too.     1. It’s weird..Ive been alternating between pumpkin/apple recipes but some random summery stuff like watermelon and lemon cookies. My recipes are truly in both seasons the past few weeks!
