Have you ever tried coconut oil?  Did you like it or not?

I used to hate coconut oil.

The first coconut oil I ever bought was refined coconut oil and I won’t say the brand but it was gross.

I thought it tasted like I was eating a cross between and a hunk of wax and Hawaiian Tropic tanning oil.

I moved onto Tropical Traditions which has been my go-to coconut oil for the past few years.

I’ve also tried Nutiva, Navitas Naturals, and now Kelapo.

I also did a post on refined vs. unrefined coconut oil if you’re curious about the differences, pros & cons.

How do you like to use coconut oil or what recipes do you make with it?

Do you use coconut oil for anything besides eating it or cooking with it?

Not only do I cook with it, but I use it as a hair treatment

You don’t have to buy “special” coconut oil for hair.  Whatever kind of coconut oil you have will work perfectly fine in your hair, I’m sure.  Makes a great leave in conditioner and smoother but just a little bit unless you like the greasy look.

I also use coconut oil on my skin, elbows, knees, lips, you name it, it works great as a moisturizer.

What do you make with coconut oil or coconut or how do you use it?

  1. please show where I would be able to obtain the recipe forBaked Orange Coconut and Banana Doughnuts.  I’ve searched you recipes and was not able to find it.  Thank you, Geri  at  gerirosemary@gmail.com   It looked soon good and I wanted to try my hand at making it.  THANKS again.

  2. LOVE that you linked to this post, Averie. I see that you’ve made those vegan chocolate bars with cocoa powder, coconut oil, and sweetener before! I didn’t add vanilla to mine, but maybe I will next time!

and OMG. Those Roasted Coconut Ginger & Peanut Butter Carrots… omg omg I am freaking out. The title alone has so many of my favorite foods in it! I need to look through all of your older recipes one day. I’ll be in true tastebud heaven!

    1. I am tempted to say yes – but I don’t have personal experience. I would suggest using half butter and half coconut oil and see how that goes, i.e. rather than 1/2 cup butter cut in, cut in 1/4 c butter and 1/4 coconut oil, both chilled. LMK how it goes & what you end up doing and the results!
