Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce Recipe
I recently posted a recipe for 2-Ingredient Homemade Pizza Dough. For those of us who want to be a little extra when it comes to pizza, you can make your own pizza sauce from scratch in literally five minutes!
This recipe is for those of us looking for fast and easy pizza sauce because it’s a no-cook, no-blender recipe. Simply whisk together the ingredients and this pizza sauce is ready to go.
The simple pizza sauce is super flavorful thanks to all of the spices in it and is perfect for all of your pizza recipes!
Stay tuned in the coming weeks because I have a few more pizza recipes I’ll be sharing.
Ingredients In Homemade Pizza Sauce
For this fast and easy pizza sauce recipe, you’ll need to have:
- Tomato sauce
- Tomato paste
- Garlic paste
- Dried oregano
- Dried basil
- Paprika
- Granulated sugar
- Red pepper flakes
- Salt
- Pepper
- Onion powder
How To Make Homemade Pizza Sauce
This embarrassingly easy pizza sauce is made by simply combining all the ingredients and whisking them together.
If you don’t have garlic paste, you can use the equivalent of 1 tablespoon of finely minced fresh garlic cloves, or to taste.
Pizza sauce is thicker than marinara sauce and is usually sweeter as well, thanks to the bit of sugar that’s added.
I know some people will ask if the sugar can be omitted and you can try it without at first, but likely to cut the acidity of the tomato sauce and paste, you’ll want to include the mere one teaspoon for this entire batch of sauce.
Can I Freeze Pizza Sauce?
Yes, you can! The no cook pizza sauce recipe makes about 2 1/2 cups, which will likely cover about two 12-inch pizzas, depending on how saucy you like your pizza.
Homemade pizza sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week in the refrigerator or 2 months in the freezer.
Can I Can Pizza Sauce?
I have never tried canning this recipe and am not an experienced canner so can’t give specifics but I’m sure there is plenty out there on the internet to reference.
Can I Use Fresh Tomatoes?
I have only made pizza sauce from tomato sauce and never from fresh tomatoes. If going the fresh tomato route, you’ll likely you may need to cook them first, then puree them, and add sufficient salt.
If you’re one of those people who has a garden full of fresh tomatoes annually, it may be worth your while to experiment and see how they work.
Can I Use Fresh Herbs?
Yes, theoretically you can, and if doing so, I would double the quantity of the fresh herbs since fresh herbs aren’t usually as concentrated as dried in their flavor profile.
However, since I always have dried basil and oregano in my spice collection, it’s easier to just use those rather than to finely mince fresh herbs.
How Else Can I Use Pizza Sauce?
There are so many uses for pizza sauce besides making regular pizza! Here are some of my favorite ways to use pizza sauce from scratch:
- Pepperoni Pizza Sliders
- Pizza Dip
- Pizza Baked Beans
- English Muffin Pizzas
- Pizza Casserole
- Pizza-Stuffed Biscuits
- Pepperoni Pizza Bake
Tips for the Best Homemade Pizza Sauce
Note that you can substitute a total of two teaspoons of Italian seasoning in place of the one teaspoon each of oregano and basil.
We all have different palates and preferences, so taste the sauce after you have everything mixed together and add pinches of whatever you think it needs based on how it tastes, such as additional salt, or perhaps a bit of freshly ground black pepper, or additional red pepper flakes if you like it with a bit more of a kick.
Because pizza sauce is thicker than marinara sauce, and because it will thicken a bit more in the refrigerator, you can microwave it for 15 seconds to loosen it back up before using, if needed.

I can not have tomatoes or any acidic food. Do u have a good recipe for a white pizza sauce?
I don’t have a white pizza sauce recipe per se. The closest thing I have to white sauce that you could possibly use is this https://www.averiecooks.com/beurre-blanc-sauce/
great
great
Sounds tasty! For what it’s worth, a tiny amount of baking soda will neutralize the acidity of the tomatoes (1/4 teaspoon baking soda per cup of tomato sauce).
Good to know!
